When one sees that the mind is obscured by afflictions, one should keep the mind within itself and make it peaceful. Because this becomes a support for samadhi. Therefore, when the mind abides in samadhi and inhales, one should learn thus: the mind abides in samadhi and inhales. When the mind abides in samadhi and exhales, one should learn thus: the mind abides in samadhi and exhales. Thus it is said. When the mind is fully relied upon and accustomed, through repeated practice, one becomes distant from the arising of all afflictions, and one is purified from afflictions. Therefore, when the mind is liberated and inhales, one should learn thus: the mind is liberated and inhales. When the mind is liberated and exhales, one should learn thus: the mind is liberated and exhales. Thus it is said. Because there are residues of habitual tendencies left by the obstacles to the path of cultivating the mind's liberation from afflictions that need to be removed. In order to remove these, as follows: By properly attending to, excellently, completely, and individually contemplating the impermanence of all conditioned phenomena, the path is manifested. Therefore, when following and observing impermanence and inhaling, one should learn thus: following and observing impermanence and inhaling. When following and observing impermanence and exhaling, one should learn thus: following and observing impermanence and exhaling. Thus it is said. He previously relied on the first dhyana, the second dhyana, and the third dhyana, or relied on the absence of difficulties, and thus practiced yoga on calm abiding. In this way, through following and observing impermanence, one practices yoga on insight. In this way, through fully cultivating calm abiding and insight, his mind is liberated from the realms, as follows: from habitual tendencies. What are those realms? As follows: What is the realm of abandonment, what is the realm of detachment, and what is the realm of cessation. Among them, because one has abandoned what should be abandoned through the view of all conditioned phenomena, it is the realm of abandonment. Because one has abandoned what should be abandoned through the cultivation of all conditioned phenomena, it is

It is the realm free from desire. Because of the cessation of all aggregates, it is the realm of cessation. Thus, these three realms are peaceful, blissful, and without disease. By attending to them, one practices calm abiding and insight, relying on them universally, becoming accustomed to them, and practicing them many times. Because of this, the mind is liberated from the remaining afflictions to be abandoned through meditation. Therefore, when breathing in while contemplating abandonment, contemplating detachment, and contemplating cessation, one trains in subduing by contemplating cessation while breathing in. When breathing out while contemplating abandonment, contemplating detachment, and contemplating cessation, one trains in subduing, thinking of the breath as a burden. Thus it is said. In this way, when he has abandoned the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing and meditation, he becomes an Arhat, one who has exhausted the defilements. There is nothing higher than this, and the distinctions have already been made thoroughly. This is called complete purification through the sixteen aspects. Complete purification What are the five aspects? They are mindfulness of breathing in and breathing out. By practicing the discrimination of persons, one skillfully combines them. The individual objects of focus within, along with their functions, along with their distractions, generate joy for what is near. If one skillfully combines them, then the discriminating thoughts of that skillful combination, whatever universal disturbance there may be, will not arise, and quickly, quickly, the mind will abide in the object of focus, and genuine joy will arise manifestly. These are the five objects of purification through the practice of discriminating persons. What is the object of focus for the wise? It is like this: being skilled in the aggregates, being skilled in the elements, being skilled in the sources, being skilled in dependent origination, and being skilled in what is and is not the case. What are the aggregates? What is being skilled in the aggregates? It is said that there are five aggregates: the aggregate of form, the aggregate of feeling, the aggregate of perception, the aggregate of mental formations, and the aggregate of consciousness. What is the aggregate of form?

What are they? Whatever form there is, all of it is the four great elements, and it is caused by the four great elements. That is, past, future, present, internal, external, coarse, subtle, bad, good, distant, and near. What is the aggregate of feeling? Feeling pleasure, feeling pain, feeling neither pleasure nor pain, relying on contact, the six collections of feelings that arise, namely: the feeling that arises from the meeting of the eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and the feeling that arises from the meeting of the mind. What is the aggregate of perception? For example: perception with characteristics, perception without characteristics, small perception, perception that has become great, immeasurable perception, and the perception of the sphere of nothingness, saying "there is nothing at all, not even a little." The six collections of perception, namely: the perception that arises from the meeting of the eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and the perception that arises from the meeting of the mind. What is the aggregate of formation? The six collections of mind, namely: the thought that arises from the meeting of the eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and the thought that arises from the meeting of the mind, and all the other phenomena that arise from the mind other than feeling and perception. What is the aggregate of consciousness? Whatever is mind, intellect, and consciousness. That is, the six collections of consciousness, namely: eye consciousness, ear consciousness, nose consciousness, tongue consciousness, body consciousness, and mind consciousness. Feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness, whether past, future, present, internal, external, coarse, subtle, bad, good, distant, or near, these are called aggregates. What is skillful in the aggregates? Knowing that the phenomena that have been taught are distinct in nature, knowing that they are many in nature, and surpassing them.
