Show end. Now, the great nature of the greatness of the teachings and instructions is shown with three verses, therefore: Like this, the view of the capable one is rare, why wouldn't it become a great meaning? Just like arising together from dissimilar places, always treat it with a very joyful heart. Like this and so on were said. Like this means as it was said above. Just like arising together from dissimilar places, like this has been extracted above. The bodhisattva who is in the stage of faith practice, hearing the dissimilar Dharma from the Tathagata, the Dharma of the Mahayana, the great power of faith and devotion arising and born from it is unparalleled, because it is cultivated in the mind, so he is happy and satisfied with the Tathagata and his scriptures, making the mind continue to grow, always obtaining an upright view from listening to the Tathagata's scriptures, and always striving to behold the face of the Tathagata. Listening to the Tathagata's scriptures and beholding the face are not easy either, so it is said to be rare. Like this, the bodhisattva who listens to the scriptures and beholds the face, why wouldn't he become a great meaning? He will definitely attain the meaning of great bodhi. Abiding in the door of Dharma, the Tathagata always manifestly teaches and abides. Like this it is said, being in the stage of faith practice, abiding in the supreme samadhi of worldly Dharma, is said to be abiding in the door of Dharma. The bodhisattva who abides in the door of Dharma always cultivates and abides through the manifestation of the Tathagata, and the Tathagata also shows him the teachings and instructions, that is the meaning. Just like grabbing from the hair, from the thick sins, he is completely pulled out and placed on the supreme bodhi. Like this it is said, the Tathagata shows the teachings and instructions, not only that, but also does these things. For example, someone falls into a mud pit and sinks down, a compassionate person grabs his hair, pulls him out, and takes him to a dry place, just like that, the Tathagatas also put down the task of showing the Dharma to the bodhisattva, from the sins of the afflictions of samsara such as greed and hatred.

Having drawn [beings] from the dense mire, causing them to enter the dry land of supreme enlightenment, does it mean initially bestowing benefits? Or does it mean establishing [them] in unsurpassed enlightenment? In short, it means summarizing and revealing the extensively explained meaning of the teachings and instructions. It mentions things like, "Constantly striving for one's own benefit, praised by the Buddhas." That is, in terms of the three trainings, the teachings and instructions are summarized and revealed. Among them, the bodhisattva's discipline of vows, the discipline of benefiting sentient beings, and the discipline of accumulating virtue, these three are called higher disciplines. When a bodhisattva enters the higher discipline and the discipline is not broken or damaged, it is called constantly striving for one's own benefit. To them, the Tathagata will say "Good!" and praise them. Adding "also condemning wrongdoers" to it, breaking or damaging the discipline is called wrongdoing. To them, the Tathagata will say "Not good!" and rebuke and punish them. As for "well-abiding and well-differentiating," "well-abiding" refers to the teaching of higher mind training. "Well-abiding" and higher mind training, samadhi, and tranquility are the same in meaning, only different in name. "Well-differentiating" refers to the teaching of higher wisdom training. "Well-differentiating" and higher wisdom training, vipassana are the same in meaning, only different in name. As for "obstacles and conducive [factors]," anything that becomes an obstacle to higher mind training and higher wisdom is called an obstacle. Obstacles to higher mind training are dwelling in many distractions and enjoying worldly affairs, etc. What cuts off higher wisdom is not listening to or contemplating the Dharma, and listening to doctrines of non-Buddhists, etc., which become obstacles to higher wisdom. Conducive [factors] refer to the cause of arising higher mind and wisdom, that is

The cause of higher mind is abandoning many distractions and not engaging in many worldly affairs. The cause of higher wisdom is listening to the sacred Dharma and engaging in mental activities, etc. As it is said: 'To the supreme beings, like an ordinance, everything is shown by the king.' Here, 'supreme beings' refers to the Bodhisattvas who dwell on the ground of practice of aspiration. To that Bodhisattva, like a king, it is like the armor of the Buddhas, the Bhagavat. How does one explain, in accordance with the Dharma, the higher mind and higher wisdom, and what obstructs them, and what is in accordance with them, without reversing the order? The characteristics of higher mind and wisdom are like this. These are the obstacles and interruptions to them. These are the Dharmas that are in accordance with them. Thus, one shows and explains without reversing the order. Furthermore, 'Whoever constantly strives, the teachings of the departed will increase, and yoga will transform.' Having heard the Dharma taught in this way, one abandons the Dharmas that are not in accordance with tranquility and insight, and constantly strives for the Dharmas that are in accordance with them. Then, that Bodhisattva will transform into expansive yoga, that is, he will attain the Samadhi of meditating on the tranquility and insight of the Great Vehicle. The so-called abiding in the stream of the Dharma gate of obtaining instructions means that when the worldly Dharma is most excellent on the ground of practice of aspiration, it is called abiding in the stream of the Dharma gate, meaning that at that time, one obtains the teachings and instructions from the Tathagata. The so-called constantly seeing the Buddha, etc., means that the Bodhisattva who abides in the stream of Dharma sees the face of the Bodhisattva at all times. Having seen the face, the unequal Dharma, that is, hearing the Dharma of the Great Vehicle, and having heard the Dharma of the Great Vehicle, faith arises in hearing the Dharma, and the joy arising from the power of faith satisfies the mind. Why should he not obtain the great benefit of Bodhi? The so-called teaching the four teachings with one verse means that teaching from the perspective of the three trainings with one verse shows the meaning of the four teachings.
