The non-existent consciousness is consciousness. The arising of mind focused on cessation is also the same. That which is associated with suffering, for example, that which is called the hell of sentient beings, is the arising of the mind of sentient beings in hell, because it is not mixed with happiness, it is associated with suffering. That which is associated with the leading of feelings, for example, those who act in the desire realm, is a synonym for the arising of mind that leads to feelings of happiness, suffering, and equanimity, because the desire realm is endowed with various karmic ripenings. That which is associated with joy, for example, the first dhyana and the second dhyana, is because in the first and second dhyanas, the mind arises associated with the joy born of solitude. That which is associated with happiness, for example, the third dhyana, is because in the third dhyana, happiness arises from the mind due to inner purity. That which is associated with neither suffering nor happiness, for example, the fourth dhyana and the space between the realm of neither perception nor non-perception, is because from the fourth dhyana upwards, it is free from the eight faults, therefore, the mind arises associated with equanimity. The eight faults are: investigation and analysis, inhalation and exhalation, happiness and suffering, pleasantness and unpleasantness. That which is associated with afflictions, for example, that which is associated with afflictions and near afflictions, is that afflictions are desire and so on, and near afflictions are anger and so on. That which is associated with virtue, for example, that which is associated with faith and so on, is a synonym for the arising of mind associated with faith in the Three Jewels, truth, karma and its results, and so on. That which is associated with the unspecified, for example, that which is not associated with either of those two, is a synonym for the arising of mind born of ripening, born of conduct, born of skill, and born of transformation. Having skillfully explained the arising of the mind in this way, how is one skilled in knowing how it abides?

etc., makes one enter into being skilled in the abiding of the mind. If it is said, "To thoroughly and truly know the thusness of consciousness-only," it means that the bodhisattva thoroughly knows that all phenomena are only consciousness, which is being skilled in the abiding of the mind. When one is skilled in the abiding of the mind, one manifests the great power of the bodhisattva, as it is taught. What is the thusness of consciousness? It is only that of all consciousnesses, because it is devoid of meaning. If the abiding of the mind in dreams, etc., can be only consciousness, then how can eye consciousness, etc., and the forms of eye, etc., be only consciousness? Answer: All views with characteristics of consciousness appear as duality even without meaning. Eye consciousness, etc., are the characteristics of forms, etc., and the view of their consciousness, and the view between body consciousness. Mind consciousness is the characteristic of all consciousnesses from eye, etc., to the ultimate of dharma, and the view with the consciousness of mind consciousness. Characteristics and views are the basis of the foundation of defilements such as inversion. If it is not so, then there will be no inversion of meaning in meaningless things, and if there is no such thing, then there will be no pervasive defilements of afflictions and cognitive obscurations, and if there is no such thing, then there will be no fault of purification. The thusness of consciousness is only that, and it should be known by reason and scripture. After explaining the abiding of the mind, the arousal of the mind is taught by "How to be skilled in arousing," etc. The bodhisattva who is skilled in arousing the mind is one who truly knows that this mind should be aroused from the bondage of the characteristics of afflictions such as desire, and from the bondage of the bad rebirth of afflictions such as aggregates. Thus, the great power of the bodhisattva is manifested. After explaining the arousal of the mind, how to increase
