The six vibrations are vibrating, high, low, going up, going down, and sound proclaiming accordingly. The eighteen great signs are the transformations of those six vibrations themselves, which should be understood by distinguishing between small, medium, and large vibrations, etc., just as with a balance. The container world also has two types: conditioned and unconditioned. The sentient world also has two types: sentient beings who engage in non-virtuous actions, and those who have faith in the assembly of gods. Taking those with arrogance and those with wisdom as the main ones, it should be understood that the meaning is shown by the eighteen words from what is called "vibration" to what is called "all-around movement," with distinctions of small, medium, and large. Or, it can be explained differently, the six vibrations and the eighteen great signs are: vibration, shaking, leaping, flashing, rumbling, and rustling are the six types. These themselves, when divided by distinctions of small, medium, and large, become the eighteen great signs. The six directions, with the distinctions of high and low, become the twelve changes of direction, and those have already been explained before. Therefore, there are two causes for these vibrations and other phenomena to occur: the great disturbance arises from the extreme joy that comes from the powerful gods hearing the sacred Dharma, which causes universal rotation. The stable world is also shown to be the lord of the Dharma nature of the Tathagata's teachings, which transcends everything, and it is for the purpose of comprehending the greatness of the self-nature of Dharma through the power of Dharma nature. Among these, intermittent movement in one direction is vibration. The complete shaking of oneself, like trees, is shaking. Rotating like a fire wheel is leaping. Flashing is the continuous production of sound. Rumbling is disturbance. Rustling is a very subtle sound. Alternatively, vibration is earth. Shaking is all trees. Leaping is all mountains. Flashing is the sound of the drums of the gods, and so on. Rumbling is the ocean, and so on.
