Therefore, if one can accurately gather what is in accordance with the words of the Blessed One, it is acceptable to do so, and this objection is not permissible. Others respond here by saying: Because of the various inclinations of sentient beings, a single statement of the Blessed One gives rise to the appearance of being explained in many ways, so it is not permissible to say that this is how the Blessed One taught. Therefore, by saying "I have heard," one accurately gathers and shows the order that comes from the path of one's own hearing, so one does not say that this is how the Blessed One taught, because it is not the object of what the Blessed One said. Therefore, at the end, one says "Thus it was taught," but one does not say "Thus it was taught." The Blessed One did not say anything at all with letters and definite words, because he is non-conceptual at all times. The Blessed One appears to teach the Dharma to sentient beings in this way only by power. Therefore, in accordance with the appearance of accurately gathering, one says "heard, heard," but one does not say "Thus the Blessed One taught," because the Blessed One did not say a single letter. That is also not permissible. If one accurately gathers and shows whether it comes from the path of one's own hearing or only from what appears to oneself, then it is not only what the Blessed One said, because at that time, this sutra is shown to be spoken from the mouth, and those who have not heard it will not generate respect for it. If it is shown to be in accordance with what appears to me, then it is not impossible for that appearance not to arise for him. Since that is the case, why not show "Thus the Blessed One taught"? However, if there is no appearance of explaining, then even the thought of "I have heard" will not arise. The Blessed One teaches the Dharma. Why mention accurately gathering "Thus the Blessed One taught" and so on? If it is in order to generate respect for the Dharma in others, in accordance with what appears to oneself, one says

If someone says: If that's the case, why not say "The Blessed One said this" at the beginning? Otherwise, it is established that previously it was only said as it appeared to oneself, but later it is established at the end that the Blessed One said it like that, which would be contradictory. The words "The Blessed One said this" and "The Blessed One said that" are not added and have no slight difference, because they correctly collect the same as what appears to oneself, so both words are added, and even if the words are combined, there is no slight contradiction. Then, why say "said that" at the end, and not say "said this"? This is also unfounded, therefore, this is not right in any way. "At one time" means that at one time or when the assembly gathered, this was heard, connecting with the previous. This shows that this Dharma is difficult to hear, showing that not everyone hears such Dharma at all times. Or, it shows oneself a lot, because at other times it also shows hearing, "At one time the Blessed One stayed," connecting with the following. This shows that because the need for taming is infinite, at other times the Blessed One stays elsewhere. "The Blessed One," this shows that it arises from the perspective of proclaiming the qualities of the Tathagata, because others cannot have such qualities. Among them, because of conquering the four maras or having qualities such as power, it is the Blessed One, as it is said: Having power and extremely having, appearance and splendor and fame, wisdom and diligence, because having six and extremely having. Or, separated from existence and nirvana, or, transcending the cycle of existence. Or, having obtained the four fearlessnesses, separated from all fears, so from the aspect of the meaning of determination it is called the Blessed One, as it is said in the Sutra of the Wheel of the Irreversible, the Noble One: Like the Dharma of the sky, even if proclaimed to embodied beings, there is no fear of this.

Like it is said, "Named Bhagavan," and so on. The so-called Royal City is a name for a special kind of city. In the past, a king named the city after himself, and because non-humans could not harm it, it was said to be named that way. Therefore, that city is called the Royal City. Because this is the most excellent of all cities, it is taught there, and similarly, this sutra is shown to be the most excellent of all sutras. The word "resides" means residing in three ways: residing through conduct, residing while teaching the Dharma, and residing in perfect absorption within. The phrase "all those of the three realms" and so on, indicates residing in perfect absorption within. Here, because it is free from all stains of obscuration and brings comfort to the mind, it is called the Excellent Mansion, which is the inconceivable samadhi of the Tathagata. The essence of the non-conceptual realm of Dharma is said to be the mansion that has the realm of Dharma as its essence, and because one abides by realizing it, that itself is its essence. Because it is without outflows and transcends the three realms, it is both superior to all those of the three realms and the essence of the non-conceptual realm of Dharma, summarized as such. Alternatively, the mansion is a special kind of place, and it also arises from supramundane roots of virtue, so it is not possessed by the desires of the three realms. Because there is nothing like it in the three realms, it is called superior to all those of the three realms. Because it arises from the realization of the realm of Dharma, that place arising from the essence of the non-conceptual realm of Dharma is called the Excellent Mansion. It is also the domain of bodhisattvas with eyes of purified wisdom, because the accumulation of merit and wisdom is deep, vast, and immeasurable, but not of shravakas and others with eyes of wisdom like those afflicted with cataracts, who have faith in the inferior. Therefore, such a situation is not taught in the sutras of the shravakas. Beings with faith in the inferior cannot truly have faith in all the qualities of the Bhagavan, therefore.
