The thought of uprightness arises spontaneously and independently because it is not mixed with afflictions that are contrary to discipline. The thought of tamed uprightness is that even if forgotten, there is no error, just as a very tamed horse does not change. The thought of peaceful uprightness is without pride, so it will not be filled with it. The thought of virtuous uprightness is indifferent to disturbance, like pure gold. The thought of uprightness from non-mixture is not content with just that, because after abiding in pure discipline, in order to purify the mind, one desires complete solitude. The thought of unconcerned uprightness is not craving for prosperity and perfect enjoyment. The thought of great uprightness is to pray for the sake of sentient beings that samsara never ceases. The thought of supreme uprightness is that when its fruit arises, it is completely without afflictions. Among them, the path of action that is explained is also abandoning killing, etc. Saying it again is to show that a special abandonment can also be obtained. Among them, in terms of abandoning killing, the three ways of abandoning are fully shown: Abandoning the cause is, for what reason? Abandoning the stick, abandoning the weapon, abandoning holding grudges, having shame and entering into compassion, this is what is said. Abandoning with an antidote is, for what reason? For all sentient beings, having benefit, happiness, love, and a compassionate heart, this is what is said. Abandoning the result is, for what reason? Even just thinking about it, one will not harm sentient beings. If one recognizes other sentient beings as sentient beings and deliberately thinks about it, then what need is there to say about doing great harm with the body? Among them, there are two causes of killing: the proximate cause and the arising cause. Among them, there are two proximate causes: the object of harm, the stick, and the object of cutting, the weapon. Abandoning these two is, abandoning the stick, abandoning the weapon, this is what is said. Spells, medicines, and harm that makes the body imbalanced should also be known as harm.
