Moreover, it is only seen that many sufferings are experienced by being slaughtered and so on. For example, some are pierced through the nose, beaten, bound, whipped, etc., and are chased by everyone involuntarily. Unwillingly, being burdened with heavy loads, they feel tired and weary. Similarly, even those animals living in monasteries, without any fault, are sought out and killed by some. Always disturbed by fear, dwelling and fleeing from each other, it is only seen that they experience countless immeasurable sufferings. Similarly, for humans, there are only the sufferings of hell beings, etc. Here, those thieves, etc., who have their limbs cut off, are tortured with instruments, hung up for display, etc., those afflictions are only the sufferings of hell beings. Those who are poor in the head, like hungry ghosts, suffer from hunger, thirst, etc. Those slaves, etc., whose bodies are controlled by others, and those who are oppressed and harmed by power, like animals, suffer from beatings, whippings, etc. Similarly, being chased, harming each other, etc., being separated from loved ones, encountering the unloved, etc., these have immeasurable sufferings. Those who seem rich and happy, the end of wealth is decay, various evil views sink deeply, accumulating karma and afflictions that lead to experiencing the sufferings of hell beings, etc., like sitting on a garbage heap, becoming the source of suffering, are in reality only suffering. For the gods, those who enjoy in the desire realm, like the fire of desire burning the heart, being disturbed, cannot be calm. They cannot calm the mind even for a moment, those who are blinded by the treasure of complete peace and happiness, what happiness do they have? Always oppressed by the fear and sorrow of death and falling, etc., how can those people be happy? Those who enjoy in the form and formless realms, although they have transcended the torment of momentary suffering, however, those habits of enjoying in the desire realm

Since these are not completely abandoned, sentient beings will still fall into hell and other places, and experience suffering. All these gods and humans are tormented by the suffering of conditioned existence because they are under the control of others due to causes such as karma and afflictions. Therefore, observing that all beings are in a place of flames of suffering, just as one's own suffering is unpleasant, one should also think that the suffering of other beings is the same, and cultivate only loving-kindness towards all sentient beings. First, one should observe and meditate on the various sufferings experienced by friends as mentioned above. Then, one should look with equanimity, without discrimination. One should think that in beginningless samsara, there is no sentient being who has not been one's relative many times, and thus meditate on ordinary people. When compassion arises equally for ordinary people as it does for friends, one should also meditate on enemies in the same way, with equanimity and so on. When equanimity arises for enemies as it does for friends, one should gradually meditate on all sentient beings in the ten directions. When compassion arises spontaneously for all sentient beings, just as one does not want a beloved child to suffer, and one becomes equal oneself, then it is complete, and thus one obtains the name of great compassion, as praised in the sutra taught by the noble Inexhaustible Intelligence. Thus, this order of cultivating compassion was taught by the Bhagavan in the Dhammapada Sutra and other scriptures. Thus, through the power of familiarizing oneself with compassion, if one vows to lead all sentient beings, then naturally the mind of enlightenment, which is the aspiration for unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, will arise without needing to be deliberately fabricated. As it is said in the Noble Ten Dharmas Sutra: "Seeing sentient beings without protectors, without refuge, without islands, one generates the mind for unsurpassed perfect enlightenment." Even through being guided and upheld by others, a Bodhisattva will generate the mind of enlightenment.

However, being overwhelmed by great compassion, the Bhagavan declared from the Samadhi of the Knowledge Mudra of the Blessed Thus-Gone One that the Bodhisattva's own generation of the mind of enlightenment is extremely excellent. Even if one does not possess the practice, the mind of enlightenment is the greatest fruit in samsara, as the Bhagavan declared from the liberation of Maitreya: Son of good family, just as even if a vajra jewel is broken, it still overwhelms all excellent gold ornaments. The name of the vajra jewel will not disappear, and it will also avert all poverty. Son of good family, similarly, the vajra jewel of generating the mind of omniscience (bodhicitta), even if it does not possess practice, will still overwhelm all the gold ornaments of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas. The name of Bodhisattva will not disappear, and it will also avert the poverty of samsara. Whoever cannot train in all aspects of all the perfections, should also generate the mind of enlightenment with skillful means in order to obtain great fruit.\ The Sutra of Admonishing the King says: Thus, great king, you are a person with many affairs and many actions. If you cannot train in the perfection of generosity to the perfection of wisdom in all aspects of everything, then, great king, for the desire, faith, pursuit, and aspiration for complete enlightenment, whether walking, staying, sitting, lying down, waking, eating, or drinking, always remember it without interruption, pay attention to it, and meditate on it. Gather together all the roots of virtue of the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Hearers, Solitary Buddhas, all ordinary beings, and my own past, future, and present, and rejoice with the supreme rejoicing. After rejoicing, offer it for the purpose of making offerings to the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Solitary Buddhas, and Hearers. After offering it, share it with all sentient beings. Then, all sentient beings, all
