Having prostrated to all sacred places and Bodhisattvas, I beseech you to listen: Before me (this person), I will properly take the vow of the Bodhisattva's precepts. If one takes it oneself without such a Lama, then say: Please, Teacher, be mindful. Before a Teacher with such a name, make a vow that from now until I am a Bodhisattva, I beseech all Buddhas, World Honored Ones, and Bodhisattvas to be mindful. Immediately after the request, the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas praise, and for the sake of increasing merit, they will always be mindful of this person. Thus, one should take the precepts according to the rituals spoken in the Bodhisattva's Pitaka, etc., by those with sharp faculties. Some with middling faculties, due to the power of encountering virtuous friends, etc., likewise, some first take any of the vows such as the life-long Upasaka vow, and then take the Bodhisattva vow. Those with dull faculties only take any of the life-long Upasaka vows, etc., first. Among these, there are also those who generate the Bodhisattva vow without having taken any of the life-long Upasaka vows, etc., but it is because of the difference in faculties that the difference in the rituals for taking it are understood. How the reversed discipline, which is the proper taking of abandoning misconduct, is like the Upasaka vow, the Shramanera vow, the Bhikshu vow, and the Upavasa vow, these four are taken according to the difference of the individual. Thus, anyone who does not like the three misdeeds of body, speech, and mind, who is attached to desires, and who dwells in a house, should also rely on taking refuge in the Three Jewels, and first temporarily decide to take the action of abandoning the five things to be abandoned for as long as life lasts. The Upasaka vow of taking refuge in the Three Jewels until enlightenment, and the proper taking of other than the mind of enlightenment, is for as long as life lasts, so there is no later, because the basis is destroyed.

I should not turn the support to other supports, and because it is impossible to remember. (So one should practice like this). Thus, gradually becoming accustomed to making the mind separate from desire is more pleasant than abandoning all that should be abandoned and not practicing celibacy, so one should first take up abandoning the five. Whoever practices separation from desire should leave home, abandon non-celibacy, and become a renunciate. To this, establish renunciation and full ordination. As the Blessed One said, "Having shaved hair and beard, wearing saffron robes, with true faith, going forth from home to homelessness is called renunciation." This completely encompasses the four perfections of a bhikkhu. The content from "However" to is the perfection of clothing, because this clothing is not in accordance with afflictions and near afflictions, so it is more perfect than the clothing of householders. "With true" is the perfection of activity, truly renouncing through activities such as requests, not being not fully ordained or taking signs oneself. "With faith" is the perfection of intention, not being compelled by debt, not being compelled by fear, nor for the sake of escaping the king's punishment. "From home" etc. is the perfection of place, the place of householders is home. This place is more perfect than that narrow place, that is, homelessness, such as under a tree. There are also three types of renunciation, that is, obtained by truly upholding through activities such as requests, and if one has realization, then obtained through the nature of reality, and those who are clearly indicated through emanation. Full ordination is of ten types, this is the view of the Vaibhashikas in the Vinaya, which will be explained. Whoever is separated from misconduct and desire should combine even the nature of misconduct and separation from desire during the day and night with truly upholding the upavasa vows. Similarly, some people, even during the day or night, because they are not willing to abandon playing with other women and what butchers do at night and during the day. In order to gather people like this, one should abide in the corresponding upavasa vows such as tranquility and increase.

It is also said in the ritual called "Doing Thus," that one does not mean these, but because one desires visible results, one enters into the discipline of precepts. Therefore, in order to accustom lay practitioners to being separated from desire, they are sometimes allowed to take the vows of refuge during festivals and miraculous months. If one is willing, one can gradually become accustomed to it for half a month or a month, etc., and even take it for life. For hermaphrodites and others, precepts do not arise naturally, nor are they without precepts, just as in saline fields, there are both grains and grasses. Those with female organs are also fortunate. In reality, there is no difference between men and women in terms of precepts, only in terms of signs, supports, and names. Taking vows of renunciation should also be done by a master who is proficient in the ritual of taking vows, and by a precept-holder who wants to take vows, because the Pratimoksha vows come from the expression of others. Even if there is a cause, one must rely on others, in order not to transgress. One should repeat the words spoken by the master in this way: I (name) from this time until the end of my life, take refuge in the Buddha. I (name) from this time until the end of my life, take refuge in the Dharma. I (name) from this time until the end of my life, take refuge in the Sangha. Repeat this three times. Please accept me as a lay practitioner who takes the three refuges. After that, I (name) from this time until the end of my life, renounce killing, and turn away from killing. Similarly, renounce taking what is not given, sexual misconduct, lying, and places of intoxication and carelessness, such as grain wine and mixed wine. Repeat this three times as well. From today onwards, please accept me as a lay practitioner. In this way, one becomes a lay practitioner with three or five branches, that is, a lay practitioner who takes the three refuges, and I (name) am a disciple.
