For those who wish to be free from suffering, hold well and firmly the precious Bodhicitta. All other virtuous deeds are like trees by the water, they bear fruit and then are exhausted. But the tree of Bodhicitta constantly bears fruit, it does not diminish, but increases. Even if extremely terrible sins have been committed, just as one relies on a hero to escape great fear, relying on it, one will be quickly liberated, why would the wise not rely on it? It is like the fire at the end of time, it will surely burn away great sins in an instant. The loving protector, endowed with wisdom, Norzang, has explained its immeasurable benefits. In short, Bodhicitta should be understood as two types: aspiring Bodhicitta and engaging Bodhicitta. Just as one knows the difference between wanting to go and actually going, the wise should understand the difference between these two in sequence. From aspiring Bodhicitta, great cyclical results arise, but it does not continuously produce merit like engaging Bodhicitta. From the moment one takes that mind with an irreversible intention to liberate the limitless realms of sentient beings, from that day on, even in sleep or carelessness, the power of merit will continuously and exponentially increase, becoming as vast as the sky. This is with reason, as requested by Laksang, for the benefit of beings with inferior faith, the Tathagata himself has spoken. Even if one only thinks of removing a slight headache from sentient beings, that act with the intention to benefit will be endowed with immeasurable merit. What need is there to mention wanting to remove the immeasurable suffering of each sentient being and wanting to accomplish immeasurable qualities in each one? Whether it is a father or a mother, who has such altruistic thoughts? Even gods and sages, or even Brahma, do not have such a mind. Sentient beings themselves have never even dreamed of generating such a mind for themselves, how could they generate it for others? This altruistic mind, which does not even arise for oneself, this precious and special quality of mind, is an unprecedented miracle. It is the source of joy for all beings.

Yu! Sentient beings' suffering becomes a sore, The merit of the precious mind, How can it be measured? Even just thinking of benefiting others, Is superior to offering to the Buddhas, So what need is there to mention, The benefit and happiness of all sentient beings? Although there is a mind that wants to abandon suffering, Yet it manifestly runs towards suffering, Although desiring happiness, due to ignorance, One destroys one's own happiness like an enemy. Those who are afflicted by happiness, And those who have much suffering, Satisfying them with all happiness, Cutting off all suffering, And also dispelling ignorance, Where is there anything equal to that? Where is there such a friend? Where is there such merit? Those who repay kindness, They are also worthy of praise for a while, What need is there to mention the Bodhisattva, Who does good deeds without being asked? To a small number of beings, Providing a small amount of food, Giving just a moment of food, With contempt until noon, People also praise it as doing good. To countless sentient beings, For a long time giving the happiness of the Sugatas, The unsurpassed happiness that the mind desires, Fulfilling all thoughts, What need is there to mention constant giving? Whoever has such a son of the Buddhas, If one generates an evil mind and makes an intention, The number of evil minds generated, For eons one will dwell in hell, Thus spoke the capable one. However, whoever rejoices in mind, The fruit of that is even more increased, To the sons of the Buddhas, it is extremely important, Evil does not arise, and goodness increases. To whom the supreme precious mind arises, I prostrate to that body, To whom harming also connects to happiness, I take refuge in that source of happiness.
