For existence. The three kinds of formations, whatever is the manifested formation, by those actions one goes to rebirth. Consciousness conditioned by formations, will enter into all beings. Once consciousness has entered, name and form arise. Once name and form have arisen, the six sense bases arise. Dependent on the six sense bases, contact truly arises. Dependent on name and form and mindfulness, there is only birth. Thus, dependent on name and form, consciousness arises. Eye and form and consciousness, the gathering of the three is contact, from that contact, all feelings arise. The condition for feeling is craving, one craves for the sake of feeling. If one has craved, then appropriation, the four kinds of appropriation. If there is appropriation, then the existence of the appropriator, greatly arises. If there is no appropriation, then liberation, existence does not arise. That existence is also the five aggregates, from existence birth arises. Old age and death and sorrow, and lamentation along with suffering, displeasure and disturbance, those arise greatly from birth. Thus, this mass of suffering, this unique one arises. The root of cyclic existence is formation, therefore the wise do not form. Therefore, the unwise is the doer, because of seeing that unwise one. If ignorance ceases, then formations etc. also do not arise. Ignorance ceases because of cultivating that with wisdom. Because that and that cease, that and that do not manifest. This unique mass of suffering, that is how it truly ceases. The examination of the twelve links of existence is called the twenty-sixth chapter. Past time, whether it has arisen or not, and the world is permanent etc., whatever views there are, those are based on the extreme of the present. Future time, whether another will arise etc., the world will not arise, the extreme etc., whatever views there are, those are based on the extreme of the future. Saying that it has arisen in the past, that action is unreasonable. Whatever has arisen in previous lives, that is not this. That itself is taken as self.

If you think like that, the appropriation will become different. Apart from appropriation, what is your self? If you say there is no self apart from appropriation, then appropriation itself is the self, and your self does not exist. Appropriation itself is not the self, it arises and ceases. How can appropriation become the appropriator? The self is not valid as other than appropriation. If there is another, without the taker, if there is reason to take, then it cannot be taken. Therefore, it is not other than appropriation, nor is it appropriation itself. The self is not without appropriation, nor can it be determined that it is non-existent. To say that it did not arise in the past is also unreasonable. What arose in past lives is not different from this. If this is other, then it will also arise without it. Likewise, it will change its state, and be born there without dying. Cessation and actions will be wasted, and the actions done by others will be experienced separately by others, and so on. It does not arise from what has not arisen, which would be a fault here. The self will become created, or become arising, or become without cause. Therefore, the self has arisen, the self has not arisen, both are, and neither are, the views on the past are not reasonable. The future time will arise, and will not arise, these views are the same as the past time. If that god is that person, then it will become permanent. The god will become unborn, because the permanent has no birth. If the person is different from the god, then it will become impermanent. If the god and the person are different, the continuum will not be reasonable. If one side is the god, and one side is the person, then it will become permanent and impermanent. This is also not reasonable. If permanence and impermanence, both are established, then it is neither permanent nor impermanent, depending on what you want to establish. If something comes from somewhere and goes somewhere, therefore samsara is without beginning, if so, it does not exist. If there is no permanence, then what will become impermanent? Permanence and impermanence, and the exclusion of both.
