Just as a tree's nirvana is not abandoned, will it also not change without being taken? Oh, Blessed One, if it has not been taken, how is it said to be not abandoned? If a Bodhisattva does not have discriminating thoughts about samsara and nirvana, and contemplates equality, then there is neither abandoning nor taking of samsara and nirvana. To this, if there is no taking, how is it said that it will not be abandoned? Maitreya, now, like this, it is not said whether to take samsara or not to take samsara. Therefore, it is said like this, I do not speak of taking and abandoning because of abandoning or not abandoning samsara, but I speak based on doing things according to need. Like this, with the power of clairvoyance, at all times, in limitless worlds, the benefit of sentient beings' realms is done continuously, therefore it is said that samsara is not completely abandoned, not because of not abandoning samsara. Like this, with the nature of emptiness, holding the nature of no object of focus, abiding in it, therefore it is said to take nirvana. This is what is taught. Oh, Blessed One, how should one observe the gathering of the nature of non-discrimination? That is, how is non-discrimination completely perfect and ultimate? Non-thing and non-thing are not two, that is, saying 'is' or 'is not' are not two. No elaboration, that is, for these dharmas, in all aspects, there is no discrimination at all. Oh, Blessed One, what is it? Do all the Shravakas certainly and constantly abide in nirvana? Bodhisattvas say that they do not take samsara, thinking that the Shravakas have no taking and will completely become nirvana, they asked with this in mind. Observing the many types and natures of sentient beings, that is, the types and natures of sentient beings are many, the types are of three kinds. The nature is also different due to differences in thoughts, habits, inclinations, faculties, etc. Seeking the distinction of goodness, goodness...

To obtain a specific distinction means: from the very beginning, desiring the perfectly complete enlightenment by nature, and obtaining it as desired. Inferior means: the enlightenment of Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Knowing it to be inferior and not being content with just that means becoming an Ārya, meaning that after attaining Śrāvakaship, one later becomes a Buddha. How can one attain without birth means thinking that if one is born in Saṃsāra, one can perfect the accumulation of Bodhi. The Blessed One did not declare that to be his birth, meaning: a Stream-enterer does not generate an eighth existence here. A Once-returner takes one existence here. A Non-returner does not take even one existence here. An Arhat does not take existence in any way, thus preventing birth. Maitreya, I do not consider his birth to be transformed by the power of karma and afflictions, I consider his birth to be inconceivable, emanation, and complete dedication. Birth under the power of karma and afflictions refers to Stream-enterers and so on. There is no examination of these three types of birth. Because they have three types of birth: inconceivable birth, emanation birth, and birth by aspiration. Among them, those who are uncertain about their Śrāvaka lineage, if they become close to the Tathāgata, then the Tathāgata, after observing the differences in their lineage, teaches them the Dharma of how to generate the desire for unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, and guides them onto such a path, and without abandoning that desire, manifests the true limit, thereby attaining the fruit of Stream-entry and so on. Therefore, the Buddhas, through skillful means, in the manner of Prajñāpāramitā, place all of them on the path of omniscience, and for those who become learners or non-learners, because they do not abandon the desire for unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, even if they manifest Nirvāṇa, they are like definitive Śrāvakas, and this should be very strong.
