As many sentient beings as there are, the realm of sentient beings known by the wisdom of the Buddha is extremely vast. The earth realm is not like that. Peaceful Wisdom, if closely examined and nearly grasped, all those sentient beings could attain human bodies without precedence. Peaceful Wisdom, all those sentient beings are like this: they possess the wisdom and understanding of the Venerable Sharadvatiputra. Whatever wisdom and understanding all those sentient beings of Sharadvatiputra possess, all that wisdom and understanding is concentrated in one sentient being. In this way, all sentient beings possess such wisdom and understanding. Peaceful Wisdom, all those sentient beings, for a kalpa or more, contemplate, measure, and thoroughly seek out questions of doubt. The questions of doubt of one sentient being are not those of another. Peaceful Wisdom, in this way, all sentient beings contemplate different questions of doubt, and they might all go together to the Blessed One to inquire. Even if they ask those questions of doubt, the Blessed One can, with a memory that grasps the minds of all, sever all their questions of doubt with a single voice. All those sentient beings also know that their own questions of doubt have been severed, and because of the Blessed One's inquiry and prophecy, all sentient beings are delighted. It is like what was said. The order of teachings that the Tathagata shows to those to be tamed is in no way the sphere of activity for Bodhisattvas. Whatever becomes the sphere of activity cannot be shown by the order of the limbs of those who correctly gather. Therefore, those who correctly gather the Dharma, seizing any door of Dharma that has become their own sphere of activity, show the order that comes from the path of hearing with their own ears, saying, "Thus I have heard." And at the end of the teaching, they also say, "Thus it was taught," but they do not say, "Thus it was taught" in a humble manner. Because the ultimate truth is inexpressible, the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, do not show the Dharma to others with collections of names, collections of words, and collections of letters.

Onto. The Tathagata is spontaneously accomplished without conceptualization and is always in samadhi, but due to the power of past aspirations and the karma of sentient beings, he knows that the Dharma is taught to those to be tamed in their own languages. As stated by Shiwai Lodro, on the night when the Tathagata attained the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and on the night when he passes into complete nirvana without remainder, the Tathagata did not utter even a single word in between. Nor will he speak. Why is that? Shiwai Lodro, the Tathagata is always in samadhi. The Tathagata does not breathe in or out. There is no conceptualization. There is no deliberation. If there is no conceptualization and no deliberation, there will be no speech. The Tathagata also does not conceptualize, does not deliberate, does not recognize, does not discriminate, does not speak, does not utter. Even though he does not speak, sentient beings think, 'This Tathagata is speaking.' The Tathagata is extremely abiding in samadhi, and he does not recognize all forms of letters in any way. However, those sentient beings who are devoted to letters think, 'The Tathagata is teaching us the Dharma.' When the sound of the Tathagata's speech arises from the sky, sentient beings think, 'This sound comes from the mouth of the Tathagata.' Such are the kinds of statements. Because it arises from the power of the Dharmakaya, in order to generate reverence for the sacred Dharma, the stability of such appearances is finally concluded by stating that the Bhagavan spoke thus. 'At one time' means at any time. Why was the time not specified? Because there is no need. There is no need for words such as 'on this day,' 'this date,' 'this month,' 'this time,' etc., anywhere. It is not appropriate to say that it is not needed. When indicating the location of the stupa

In order to increase the accumulation of merit of sentient beings, and to avoid disputes, it is reasonable to indicate the location. Or, in order to avoid disputes, because the Thus-Gone One, in a single moment, a brief instant, in various different realms and places, to bodhisattvas who are different beings to be tamed, or to others, appears to teach with various different teachings. If all of them were gathered together, whether bodhisattvas or others, they would say: 'At that time, the Thus-Gone One was in this place in this world, and we were there. We were there.' Thus, there would be disputes or doubts. In order to avoid such a situation, those who correctly gather everything did not fix a time. Or, because the Buddha often stayed in Rajagriha (Royal City), they wished to say 'at one time when staying in Rajagriha,' so they added the word 'one time.' 'Bhagavan' means possessing the quality of having conquered the four maras (demons), or because he possesses excellent qualities, he is called 'Bhagavan.' Excellent qualities refer to dominion, wisdom, fame, splendor, merit, and diligence. Since all of these qualities ultimately belong to the Thus-Gone One, he is called 'Bhagavan.' 'Staying in Rajagriha' refers to four ways of staying: staying by conduct, staying by teaching, staying by absorption, and staying by inner correct placement. Whatever is counted as the activity of the body is staying by conduct. Whatever is the activity of speech is staying by teaching. Whatever is the activity of mind is the two ways of staying that are different from those, that is, because of constantly abiding in equipoise, that is, meditative stabilization and the four absorptions, is staying by absorption. Looking at the world with great compassion, and the coming of gods and so on, is staying by inner correct placement. 'At Vulture Peak Mountain in Rajagriha' is for the purpose of gathering both the lay and ordained communities.
