As for the space in between, one should primarily focus on proper attention to this Perfection of Wisdom. If one upholds, recites, and fully understands it, then even the merit of all sentient beings from Jambudvipa up to the realm of the three-thousand great-thousand world system, who are established in the ten virtues and other virtuous practices, cannot match the increase of merit from this. Proper attention is as follows: with a mind that does not engage in duality or non-duality, one upholds, fully understands, recites, and properly attends to the Perfection of Wisdom. From the phrase "properly attends" up to the phrase "all-knowingness is proper attention," it shows the meaning of proper attention. When practicing the Perfection of Wisdom, one does not grasp at the two extremes of existence and non-existence because one realizes that all phenomena are emptiness in ultimate truth. One also does not grasp at being separate from the extremes of existence and non-existence. Thus, practicing the Perfection of Wisdom up to all-knowingness is proper attention. This is what is being taught. Furthermore, Kausika, if a son or daughter of good family extensively speaks and teaches this Perfection of Wisdom to others using various names, such as saying, it is also said that even if one has personally taken hold of and kept this Perfection of Wisdom, one does not view this Perfection of Wisdom as dualistic or non-dualistic, and so on. If one extensively shows and explains its meaning to others, it demonstrates the quality of increasing immense merit. That is, extensively speaking and teaching with various names means explaining, interpreting, distinguishing, clarifying, truly showing, and definitively establishing its meaning. If one does so, then one should understand that this is a variety of names for thoroughly showing and explaining the non-duality of the meaning of the Perfection of Wisdom to others. The statement that the Perfection of Wisdom is not viewed as dualistic or non-dualistic means that in ultimate truth, the nature of the Perfection of Wisdom is all phenomena.

Since it is non-conceptual, if even the "nature of non-duality" is not conceptualized, what need is there to mention the realization of the "nature of duality"? Therefore, the Perfection of Wisdom does not view in the manner of duality, nor does it view in the manner of non-duality; this is its meaning. The term "not characterized, not uncharacterized" means that when observing objects such as the eye, one does not grasp onto the characteristics of imagined objects such as forms, nor does one conceptualize "uncharacterized." The term "not taking, not abandoning" means that when performing good or bad actions, there is no conceptualization of taking future existence; and when experiencing the results of actions, there is no conceptualization of abandoning suffering and so on. The term "not subtracting, not adding" means that when distinguishing knowable dharmas, one does not deny or subtract from existing entities, nor does one affirm or add to non-existent entities. The term "not defiled, not purified" means that all sentient beings possess the Tathagatagarbha, which is inherently pure, so there is no defilement even in the state of ordinary beings, and no purification even in the state of becoming noble ones. The term "not arising, not ceasing" means that when fully examining the suchness of what is to be known, one realizes that the dharmata of dharmas is without arising or ceasing in the ultimate sense. The term "not grasping, not not-grasping" means that when focusing the mind on the suchness of dharmas and meditating, since there is no grasper or grasped, there is no conceptualization of either grasping or not-grasping. The term "not taking, not abandoning" means that when ascending from a lower ground to a higher ground, there is actually no conceptualization of taking the qualities of the higher ground or abandoning the faults of the lower ground. The term "not abiding, not not-abiding" means that when ascending from a higher ground to a higher ground, there is no conceptualization of abiding in the higher ground or not abiding in the lower ground. The term "not truly
