Do such Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas quickly awaken to unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment? Or are there other such samādhis? Etc., in order to show the names of many other samādhis to the retinues, Śāriputra asked Subhūti. Subhūti showed the names of many samādhis, such as the Bodhisattva's samādhi called 'Heroic Progress'. The meaning of those samādhis that corresponds to their names will be explained in the chapter on the Great Vehicle of Samādhi below, from the text itself. Then, by the power of the Buddha, the venerable Subhūti again spoke as follows, etc., which indicates the merit of the prediction by the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, of the three times, who reside in the ten directions, that the Bodhisattvas who abide in those samādhis will quickly awaken to unsurpassed enlightenment. That Bodhisattva-Mahasattva does not truly see even samādhi, etc., is to show non-discrimination, meaning that in the ultimate sense, both samādhi and entering into samādhi are without object, therefore one does not truly see samādhi, and the thought 'I have entered into samādhi' does not arise. Said: Venerable Subhūti, do the Tathāgatas, Arhats, Perfect and Complete Buddhas predict for the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who abides in this samādhi? This is because it was said above that those who abide in samādhi are predicted by the Buddhas of the three times, and in order to dispel the discrimination of some in the retinue who think that the Buddha who predicts, the Bodhisattva who is to be predicted, and the samādhi, etc., truly exist in the ultimate sense, Śāriputra asked, 'Is there a prediction?' Subhūti said: Venerable Śāriputra, that is not the case, etc., meaning that in the ultimate sense, the predictor, the one to be predicted, the samādhi, and the Perfection of Wisdom

Those things become one in the nature of non-substantiality, because there is no difference, so there is no prophecy either, it is said. Said: O venerable Subhuti, if that is so, it is not said that meditation is other and Bodhisattva is other. It is not said that Bodhisattva is other and meditation is other. Because all dharmas are equality itself, meditation itself is also Bodhisattva, and Bodhisattva itself is also meditation. Then, can meditation be shown to him? This is thinking that since both Bodhisattva and meditation are inseparable in the ultimate truth, and there is no otherness, then what should be shown to whom? And the question is asked, so-called can it be shown? It is since it is so, there is no object, no difference, can that meditation be shown to the Bodhisattva? This is the question. Subhuti said: O venerable Saradvatiputra, that is not so. This means that in the ultimate truth, meditation and Bodhisattva are inseparable, so that meditation cannot be shown to the Bodhisattva. Said: O venerable Subhuti, son of a noble family, does he pay attention to that meditation? And so on, is Sariputra asking for the reason of not distinguishing meditation, and Subhuti is answering for the reason of not distinguishing. In the ultimate truth, all dharmas are non-substantial, so both meditation and Bodhisattva are non-substantial and become one, so this is meditation. I am dwelling in meditation, and the thought and distinction of thinking will not arise, it is said. After that, the Blessed One said to the venerable Subhuti: Well done, thus blessing, etc., until for the unmixed Buddhadharmas, one learns in the manner of not focusing. It is in this way that the meaning of not distinguishing meditation, what Subhuti said to Sariputra is well done, the Blessed One praised Subhuti, and for other pure dharmas, one should also learn in this way, in the ultimate truth, the manner of not distinguishing and not focusing, in the conventional truth, it is taught in this way, for the dharma without affliction,

This, which is said to be the most excellent among the hearers of discernment, refers to the fact that among the hearers who are Arhats, Subhuti is praised as the most excellent of those without afflictions. Here, the term "afflictions" refers to the conceptualizations of the Bodhisattvas. Since Subhuti understands and explains the meaning of non-conceptualization, which is in accordance with the explanation of being without afflictions, it is excellent that you, Subhuti, explain the meaning of non-conceptualization. Thus, having taught the training in samadhis, in order to teach the subsequent training in not fixating on all dharmas, the Blessed One said: Sharadvatiputra, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva trains in this way, that is, he trains by not fixating on the Prajnaparamita. From "the emptiness of the nature of non-things, by way of non-fixation, it should be known that all-knowingness will arise" in between, is the teaching of training in non-fixation on all dharmas. Training in this way, that is, training by not fixating on the Prajnaparamita, etc., is the teaching of training in non-fixation. Sharadvatiputra asked: Blessed One, why is there no fixation? The Blessed One replied: Sharadvatiputra, because of being utterly pure, I do not fixate. And so on, is the teaching of the reason for non-fixation. Because of being utterly pure, means that ultimately, all dharmas are completely pure in their nature of suchness, therefore there is no place to fixate. So, what are those places where there is no fixation? It refers to the self and sentient beings, etc., which are conceived as self by the non-Buddhists, as well as the skandhas, ayatanas, dhatus, dependent origination, the three realms, etc., which are worldly dharmas, and the four noble truths, etc., which are transcendental dharmas, are fixated by individual ordinary beings as existing entities, like this is the teaching of no place to fixate. Asked: Blessed One, what is purity? And so on, in order to clearly explain the meaning of utter purity, Shariputra
