In immeasurable and countless (worlds), however many sentient beings are gathered as sentient beings, the realm of sentient beings known by the wisdom of the Buddha is extremely numerous, but the earth realm is not like that. Peaceful Wisdom, if all those sentient beings were to obtain human bodies without any precedence, Peaceful Wisdom, all those sentient beings would be like this, possessing wisdom and awareness like that of the abiding Shariputra, the wisdom and awareness of all sentient beings like Shariputra, that wisdom and awareness existing in one sentient being, in this way, all sentient beings would possess such wisdom and awareness. Peaceful Wisdom, all those sentient beings, for more than a kalpa, would contemplate, measure, and completely seek out questions of doubt, whatever the question of doubt of one sentient being, in this way that is not a second, Peaceful Wisdom, all sentient beings would contemplate various questions of doubt, and then go to the Bhagavan, even if they were to ask those questions of doubt like the falling of hailstones, the Bhagavan, with the power of mindfulness that follows with one mind, would hold all their doubts, and with one utterance would cut off all doubts, and all of them would also know that their doubts have been dispelled, having heard the answer to what was asked, the Bhagavan made a prophecy, and all were delighted, like what was said and so on. Therefore, the order of teaching shown by the Tathagata to those who are to be tamed, is because it would not become the sphere of activity for the Bodhisattva Dharma gatherers, without saying "The Bhagavan spoke thus," but in order to merely show how much I have become the sphere of activity, and what I have heard, therefore it is said, "Thus have I heard." "At one time" means, at one of any time. Why did he not specify a time? Because there is no great need to specifically indicate a time. On the other hand, also in order to avoid disputes, he did not indicate a specific time. For example, the Tathagata, in that moment, instant, or short time, (goes to) various world realms and places.

In various gatherings, whether it be Bodhisattvas or anyone else, teaching the Dharma to various beings to be tamed, appearing in various forms. If Bodhisattvas or others, all those beings to be tamed were to gather together, they would argue, saying, "At that time, the Tathagata was in this realm, in this place, we were there at that time, we were there at that time." Or they might have doubts. To avoid such a situation, all those who compiled the Dharma did not specify a time. Another explanation is that because the Buddha resided in Rajgir many times, it means "at one of the times residing in Rajgir." "Bhagavan" refers to the one who possesses the power to conquer the four maras. Another explanation is that the one who possesses that which should be relied upon is also called "Bhagavan." There are six things that should be relied upon: power, wisdom, fame, glory, merit, and diligence. The Tathagata possesses and is endowed with these things that should be relied upon, therefore he is called "Bhagavan." "Residing in Rajgir" means that the place where the Bhagavan resided is shown to have become a stupa, and in order to increase the merit of sentient beings, the location is specifically indicated. Residing in that place also has four ways: residing through conduct, residing through teaching the Dharma, residing through entering into samadhi, and residing through inner absorption. Among these, any action that belongs to the activity of the body is residing through conduct. Any action that belongs to the activity of speech is residing through teaching the Dharma. Any action that belongs to the activity of mind is residing through entering into samadhi and residing through inner absorption. Among these, constantly abiding in equanimity and entering into samadhi is residing through entering into samadhi. Contemplating the world with great compassion, and residing alone in a secluded place in order to create opportunities for gods and others to come, is residing through inner absorption. "On Vulture Peak in Rajgir" refers to
