Without disparagement, etc., evil destinies, etc., lack of livelihood, etc., destruction, etc., sorrow, etc., the fear of death, without these, therefore there is no fear of dread. Not being tainted by gain and not gain, fame and not fame, praise and disparagement, happiness and suffering, etc., therefore there is no fear of worldly dharmas. Without ignorance, knowledge of doubt, and inverted knowledge, etc., therefore there is no fear of ignorance. Therefore, because of being free from fear, one is omniscient. Called the Great Elephant, that is, the Great Lord. Some are the Three Knowledges, some are those who have attained individual perfect enlightenment, some are those who have attained the six supernormal powers, some are those who communicate all knowledge, some are those who have attained solitary dwelling, in order to attain the ultimate Sage's Dharma, therefore it is the Great Elephant. 'Done what is to be done, done what can be done' means that the accomplishment of all kinds is completely perfected. Therefore, liberation from all suffering through the perfection of discipline, samadhi, and wisdom is what is to be done, because it is what must be done. Living with few desires, living with contentment, living with the eye of cultivated qualities, living with true satisfaction, etc., is what can be done, because it is acting as one pleases. The complete perfection of these two is 'done what is to be done and done what can be done.' Called 'abandoning the burden,' there are four burdens: the burden of the aggregates, the burden of the afflictions, the burden of vows, and the burden of diligence. In order to completely abandon, in order to completely eliminate, in order to be ultimate, in order to be completely perfect, these are abandoned in order, that is, completely abandoned, eliminated, ultimate, completely perfect. That is, through completely knowing suffering, eliminating the origin, cultivating the path, and directly realizing cessation. By abandoning these, one obtains the happiness of no aggregates, the happiness of liberation, the happiness of perfect enlightenment, and the happiness of peace. Therefore, merely through abandoning the burden, the merit of obtaining the happiness of abandoning the burden is shown. Called 'obtaining one's own benefit,' there are two kinds of obtaining one's own benefit.

That is, abandoning harm and obtaining benefit. The first of these is abandoning ignorance, thereby abandoning all the obscurations of affliction. Furthermore, by applying wisdom, one attains nirvana, which is the second. What is called "completely exhausting the bonds to existence" refers to the nine bonds to existence, because they cause beings to be bound to and fettered by existence, namely views, attachment, doubt, jealousy, miserliness, anger, pride, ignorance, and attachment to existence. Views and so on are both bonds and universal bonds, therefore views and so on are universal bonds. Whatever is the complete exhaustion of these is called that. Complete exhaustion is utter decay. Of these, the first three are exhausted by the uncontaminated right view. The middle three and one part of the ninth, namely the part of the desire realm, are exhausted by entering into uncontaminated samadhi. The remaining three are exhausted by the wisdom of the path of the arhat. What is called "the mind being completely liberated by right knowledge" means that the mind is completely liberated by that right thought, which is right knowledge. To have right faith, then what does one have faith in? Namely, in the qualities of the Three Jewels, and in the teachers who possess the three vehicles, as well as in the Four Noble Truths and the dharmas that are conducive to enlightenment. What is called "obtaining the supreme shore of all the powers of the mind" means that the mind that is controlled by the samadhi of the mind is the power of the mind, it is all, and that is it. For those, the supreme shore is the end. Going is proceeding, because "Ema" means proceeding. Because of proceeding to the supreme end, it is reaching the other shore. Then how is this obtained? Namely, through what one desires, and the time one desires, and how long one desires, and in accordance with the rules and contrary to the rules, and so on, gradually abiding in the nine successive abidings, because one has power over entering into samadhi, abiding, arising, and ceasing. Since it has been said that it is all, then does the noble Ananda also possess such qualities? No, except for one person, namely, and so on.
