Chapter One: Expressing Omniscience. Chapter One: Expressing Omniscience. In Sanskrit: Ārya Aṣṭasāhasrika Prajñāpāramitā Pañjikā Sārottamanāma. In Tibetan: The Supreme Essence Commentary on the Holy Eight Thousand Verse Prajñāpāramitā. Homage to all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas abiding in the ten directions! For as long as the many perfect suns, with their rising and setting, turn the world into day and night, may you possess the precious treasure of the unobstructed qualities of the Buddhas' enlightenment that pervade every place! May this victorious mother of the conquerors be victorious, for any letter, even if only slightly heard in the ear, will be transformed into the seed of enlightenment! Whose all-pervading Maitreya's adornment nature, with vast merit, equally established the many meanings with its own limbs like the ocean, that great treatise of Prajñāpāramitā is the Eight Thousand Verse. Precious Origin explains it with inferior words, briefly and very clearly. If you ask why this treatise is explained, it is because it is the precious Sutra Pitaka among the Bhagavan's teachings. Therefore, there are twelve types of teachings: Sutra Pitaka, Geya, Vyakarana, Gatha, Udana, Nidana, Avadana, Itivuttaka, Jataka, Vaipulya, Adbhutadharma, and Avavadaka. What is Sutra Pitaka? It is that which shows profound meaning with simple words. What is Geya? It is that which speaks of verses in the middle and at the end of any Sutra Pitaka. Any Sutra Pitaka with a clear meaning is also Geya, because it is understandable. What is Vyakarana? It is the prophecy of the passing away of the Shravakas and the rebirth of those who are about to die. Any Sutra Pitaka with a definite meaning is also indicated with a clear intention. What is Gatha? It is the said Gatha, that is, two lines, three lines,

Four, five verses, and six verses. What is the special statement? It is spoken from rejoicing. What is the opening statement? It is the teaching that is spoken, or together with the events that occurred and all the rough things that are spoken. What is the speculative statement? It is spoken together with examples. What kind of event is that? It is in accordance with the practice of the past. What is the biography of birth? It is in accordance with the conduct of the Bodhisattva. What is extremely extensive? It is in accordance with the Bodhisattva's collection, because it benefits all sentient beings and is a place of happiness. What is the wonderful Dharma? It is where the wonderful and marvelous Dharma of the Hearers, Bodhisattvas, and Buddhas are taught. What is the determination? It is where the characteristics of the non-inverted Dharma are taught. Among those teachings, this is the Bhagavan's Jewel Sutra, because it accomplishes the meaning of the noble person and shows the aspects of all profound and noble Dharmas. Then, by what measure is this meaning to be spoken? What is that, this is the question. In the treatise it says: Prajnaparamita, is truly explained by eight things. The nature of all-aspects of wisdom, the nature of the path-knowing, from that the nature of all-knowing. All aspects of manifest enlightenment, to the peak and gradual, one moment of manifest enlightenment, Dharmakaya and those eight. Those, means that in their own meaning, the suffix of དྷཱའི་(dhā'i) is added. Those, means these eight. To turn towards enlightenment and to truly realize, is manifest realization. Therefore, for that very reason, manifest realization, because they are for the very meaning of realization. How is this manifest realization? Because with seven aspects not

is the order. The maturation of its end is a collection of other meanings, which are six aspects. Why? Because the first three aspects of omniscience are the characteristics of the Perfection of Wisdom. Then the four are its application, the excellence of application, the order of application, and the ultimate of application. Then the Dharmakaya with its activities is its maturation, meaning the fruit of the chief. Also, the scriptures say: The cause of the object is the three purities, the nature of the four applications, the Dharmakaya and the fruit of activities, the collection of other meanings is the three aspects. Or, the condensed meaning of this is three: Thus, the three aspects of omniscience are the object of application, its cause. The nature of the four applications with objects is the manifestation of all aspects, and so on. The fruit of that cause is the Dharmakaya, which is from that nature. Is it eight, six, or three in that nature? This is the meaning of this sutra. Some say that everything is the chief, with one meaning. It does not change into another sentence, like the collection of words in ten chapters and so on. Because the meaning of the mutual branches is closely related to the manifestation of one meaning, therefore, because it has explanations and consistent means, the perfect enlightenment is the main thing here, so it is said. That is not true, because perfect enlightenment can also be understood from the Hearers' Pitaka, because it wants to know. The Perfection of Wisdom is incomprehensible. Because there is no desire to know. Therefore, if that nature is said to be the main thing, this is difficult to believe, because it is attainable, so it is believed in the teachings of the Bhagavan. Therefore, this should also be said to be the main thing, said by the Bhagavan. As one believes in this, so one gets closer to enlightenment, therefore, this should be said to be the main thing. If this is widely spoken about the eight manifestations and so on as their essence, how can it be the main thing? The nature of the Perfection of Wisdom is the path to perfect enlightenment.
