That which is called "without deceit" is their thirteenth sign. That which is called "cultivation is acceptance" means to perfectly accept the merits of cultivation. The twelve merits of cultivation are: always holding a duster, always wearing three Dharma robes, always wearing felt clothes, always begging for alms, always sitting on one seat, not taking food after eating, always dwelling in the wilderness, always dwelling under a tree, always without cover, always dwelling in the cemetery, always sitting in the lotus position, and dwelling as it is. These are their fourteenth signs. That which is called "without stinginess, etc." means that with respect to the opposing factors of the six perfections, namely the six stinginesses, etc., and jealousy, not having these means not having stinginess, etc., which is their own fifteenth sign. That which is called "understanding the nature of reality" and "seeking hell for the sake of sentient beings," with respect to "whatever Dharma is heard from others," namely "there is no Buddha," etc., all of these are understood by knowing the nature of reality. If it is said that for those pure ones who do not turn back from Mara, indicating the work of hell, how is that reasonable? That is also because they seek hell for the sake of the world's benefit, and that which is called "going to hell" is their own sixteenth sign. That which is called "not being led by others" is their own seventeenth sign. That which is called "showing the other path near to Mara" and "understanding the name Mara," that which is called "other" and "path" is another path. Relative to the path, the other is indeed near due to circumstances, not the meaning of the path and the meaning of the path. Because it is related to Mara, therefore calling the path itself non-path, knowing it to be Mara, this is the first sign. Calling the non-path itself the path, knowing it to be Mara, this is the second sign. Among them, the first is "Whoever, Subhuti, also" etc., and from "the poet's own creation" to the end of "should be known," that is their own eighteenth sign. The second is "Subhuti, also" etc., and from "pulling out the end of suffering" to the end of "if you think that is not the place" that is said, that is their own sign.

The nineteenth is just like that. That which is called "The Buddha's Delightful Conduct" is the twentieth sign for those very ones. It concludes with verses such as "The signs are those twenty," and the bodhisattva who abides in those that are in accordance with the aspects of ascertainment, what is symbolized by those twenty constant places is non-retrogression from perfect complete enlightenment, and that is the meaning of non-retrogression. Regarding abiding in the path of seeing, it is said: "In the path of seeing, patience and knowledge, sixteen moments of a bodhisattva, should be known as the characteristic of non-retrogression." This means that one should know that the bodhisattva who abides in the path of seeing is a sign of non-retrogression. How many moments are there of patience and knowledge? It means that there are sixteen moments of patience and knowledge. Which sixteen? "The perception of forms, etc., reverses, the mind is firm, the rope is inferior, from those, reversing the limbs of meditation, etc., completely eliminating all, lightness of body and mind, and skillful means of enjoying desires, constantly practicing celibacy, and purity of livelihood, and those that cause obstacles, such as the aggregates, and the battles of assemblies and powers, etc., with attachment, in miserliness, etc., engagement and subsequent engagement, separately preventing the abidings, and not perceiving even a particle of dharma, in one's own ground, that very nature, and abiding in the three grounds, giving up life for the sake of dharma, such sixteen moments are the signs of non-retrogression for the wise one who abides in the path of seeing." Among these, "The perception of forms, etc., reverses" means that the perception from forms, etc., up to the Buddha reverses, and this is the patience of knowing dharma in suffering. From "Thus it was declared" up to "one should know as non-retrogressing" is the first sign of the path of seeing. "The mind is firm," etc., not being disturbed by demons, etc., is the knowledge of dharma in suffering. From "What, Subhuti, again" up to "will enter without fault" is its sign, which is the second.
