It is a composition of verses that perfect realization, a classification of extensive explanations such as the Hundred Thousand Mothers, indicated by a slight opening. How is it indicated? To adorn the explanation of the meaning of the Hundred Thousand Mothers and so forth, it becomes an adornment for all the scriptures and so forth. Becoming an adornment is the thought, because it indicates that. The word "because" is because I have come to know the intention of the noble Maitreya. If asked, are there other explanations that explain well? The answer is yes, therefore it is said, "Attached to beings," and so forth, that is, the noble one, like one who is free from afflictions, is not attached, but is always attached to the benefit of sentient beings, that is, always attached. This meaning is: Attached to beings, always making attachments. As it is said, who is attached to beings? That is, attached to beings, the Bodhisattvas. With whom are they similar and always making attachments? That is, those who are similar to them. Therefore, it is the protector, because he guides sentient beings to follow the path he has seen himself. Explanation is the showing of special meaning. The author is the one who puts things together well. By what? By the name "Great Treatise," because it gathers all the meanings of the Prajnaparamita Sutra, therefore it is the Great Treatise, that is, the Ornament for Clear Realization. If asked, is it made by speculation or by hearing transmitted from one to another? The answer is no, it is that itself. Having heard from the Protector Maitreya. As it is said, because he is the most excellent of gods and men, and because he is the lord of the world, therefore he is invincible by the Great Ishvara and so forth, therefore he is called "Invincible," that is, I myself having heard, having thought and meditated well, made this treatise, the meaning of which can be known as such. Although this is one who has attained Samadhi, how, because of greater faith, did he compose the treatise in verse form, as if he had heard it directly from the author, therefore, like the compilers, he has become a reliable person here. Here, others have heard much, and the memory has also been collected as it is known, what is there to doubt here?

If one is able to explain, then what need is there to say about others who boast of being wise? This is to be understood in this way. Without external knowledge, relying on internal knowledge, and abiding in the treatises of the Mind-Only school, this is referred to as "the root of benefiting others," and so on. Because one wishes to benefit beings, one will certainly guide them with a virtuous cause, a path without fault, and in accordance with reality, therefore it is the root. This meaning itself is referred to as "benefiting others," because it is able to accomplish the desired benefit. Who is it? It is Vasubandhu. Taking one's own wishes as primary. This refers to being very attached to one's own school of thought. Explanation refers to commentary, following the great treatises. Belonging to the category of the noble ones. Because one has attained samadhi. Liberation refers to having particular faith in the special non-self. "With the mind abiding in the Middle Way" refers to distinguishing the great treatises with the wisdom of the Middle Way that abandons extremes such as existence and non-existence. If it is said that it has already been distinguished before, is this not reasonable? It is said, "He has done, not seen done." This refers to the commentaries made by the teachers mentioned earlier, which are merely an entry into the treatises of the Mind-Only school, together with their own nature, so they are not in accordance with reality. If one knows this, therefore, the group of liberation, with the power of greater faith in non-self, destroys all the doctrines of the non-Buddhists, and because of the nature of the words of the guru who is in accordance with oneself, makes wisdom manifest, therefore it explains the great treatises, and should be combined with the previous one. Thinking in this way, if the Bhagavan's Prajnaparamita has the nature of existence, then clinging to existence will not lead to true liberation, and the treatise will also become a direct meaning. The nature of the illusory non-dual wisdom itself is just like the literal meaning, so the explanation is easy to understand, and because there is no attachment to extremes such as existence and non-existence, one will be truly liberated. That is also in the Madhyamakavatara, before the face of the teacher Nagarjuna.
