The Blessed One replied: Subhuti, it is not so. Subhuti, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he does not perceive any phenomenon as having inherent existence, nor does he perceive it as being without inherent existence. That which does not perceive inherent existence or non-inherent existence is the acceptance that accords with the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva. That which does not perceive inherent existence or non-inherent existence is the cultivation of the path. That which does not perceive inherent existence or non-inherent existence is the result.

The path of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva is without substance. Realization is also without substance. Subhuti, in this way, through these various aspects, one should understand that all phenomena are of the nature of insubstantiality. The question: World Honored One, if all phenomena are of the nature of insubstantiality, then, World Honored One, how does the Tathagata become perfectly enlightened to complete and perfect Buddhahood through the nature of insubstantiality of all phenomena? How do those who have become perfectly enlightened Buddhas gain mastery over the realm of all phenomena? After this question, the World Honored One said to the venerable Subhuti: Subhuti, here, in the past, when a Bodhisattva practiced the conduct of a Bodhisattva and practiced the six perfections, he was separated from desire, separated from sinful and unwholesome dharmas, with investigation and analysis, possessing joy and happiness born of separation, he approached and dwelt in the first dhyana. He approached and dwelt in the four dhyanas. However, I did not grasp the characteristics of those dhyanas and the limbs of dhyana, I did not become arrogant because of those dhyanas, I did not taste the flavor of dhyana, I did not focus on dhyana, thus I entered into samadhi on the completely pure aspect of those dhyanas. Thus, after I had matured through those dhyanas, I inclined my mind to manifest various kinds of supernormal knowledge. I inclined my mind to manifest divine ear knowledge. I inclined my mind to manifest knowledge of others' minds. I inclined my mind to manifest knowledge of remembering past lives. I inclined my mind to manifest divine eye knowledge. However, I did not grasp the characteristics of those manifested supernormal knowledges, I did not become conceited because of those supernormal knowledges, I did not taste their flavor, I did not focus on them, thus I entered into samadhi by truly recollecting the five supernormal knowledges as if they were like the sky. Thus, with the wisdom associated with a single moment, I manifested
