Again, thinking "space is infinite," he approaches and dwells in the sphere of infinite space. He completely transcends all spheres of infinite space, and thinking "consciousness is infinite," he approaches and dwells in the sphere of infinite consciousness. He completely transcends all spheres of infinite consciousness, and thinking "there is nothing at all," he approaches and dwells in the sphere of no-thing-ness. He completely transcends all spheres of no-thing-ness, and approaches and dwells in the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. He completely transcends all spheres of neither perception nor non-perception, and approaches and dwells in the cessation of perception and feeling. In this way, he enters into and emerges from these nine successive meditative stabilizations in accordance with both forward and reverse order. He distinguishes these eight liberations and these nine successive meditative stabilizations, and enters into the Lion's Play Samadhi. Having dwelt in that samadhi, he individually discerns the twelve links of dependent origination in accordance with both forward and reverse order. What are the twelve links? Subhuti, here, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva individually discerns that actions arise from the condition of ignorance. Similarly, consciousness arises from the condition of actions, name and form arise from the condition of consciousness, the six sense bases arise from the condition of name and form, contact arises from the condition of the six sense bases, feeling arises from the condition of contact, craving arises from the condition of feeling, grasping arises from the condition of craving, existence arises from the condition of grasping, birth arises from the condition of existence, aging and death arise from the condition of birth, and sorrow, lamentation, pain, grief, and despair arise from the condition of aging and death. He individually discerns in this way, and individually discerns: "In this way, only this great mass of suffering will arise in the world." If there is no aging and death, then sorrow, lamentation, pain, grief, and despair will not arise.

Discriminating each individually. Likewise, if there is no birth, there will be no aging and death. If there is no existence, there will be no birth. If there is no grasping, there will be no existence. If there is no craving, there will be no grasping. If there is no feeling, there will be no existence. If there is no contact, there will be no feeling. If there are no six sense sources, there will be no contact. If there is no name and form, there will be no six sense sources. If there is no consciousness, there will be no name and form. If there is no formation, there will be no consciousness. If there is no ignorance, there will be no formation. Thus, discriminating each individually, in this way, this great mass of suffering will cease, thus discriminating each individually. In this way, the twelve links of dependent origination, in accordance with and not in accordance with the order, are individually examined, and the root of virtue is also made common with all sentient beings and dedicated to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. How is it dedicated? What is dedicated? Where is it dedicated? It is dedicated in such a way that the three aspects of the mind do not engage. Subhuti, in this way, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, abiding in the Perfection of Wisdom, fully grasps the Perfection of Dhyana, which is said to be the path of seeing. Subhuti, what is the Samadhi of the Lion's Play of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva? Subhuti, here, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, being secluded from desires, secluded from sinful and unwholesome dharmas, with investigation and analysis, dwells having attained the first dhyana, which is born of seclusion, with joy and bliss.
