The venerable Subhuti said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, if that is so, for one who has the perception of things, there is not even an acceptance that accords with it, so how much less is there attainment? There is no attainment. How much less is there direct realization? There is no direct realization. What is the reason for this? Blessed One, for one who has the perception of no things, is there an acceptance that accords with it, or the ground of pure vision, or the ground of lineage, or the eighth ground, or the ground of seeing, or the ground of attenuation, or the ground of freedom from desire, or the ground of having accomplished what is to be done, or the ground of a solitary Buddha, or the ground of a Bodhisattva, or the ground of a Buddha? Relying on what path of meditation, and obscured by what afflictions, will the faults of a Bodhisattva not fall into ruin, and because the faults of a Bodhisattva have not fallen into ruin, will one not attain omniscience, and because one has not attained omniscience, is there a path by which one will abandon all the obscurations of not abandoning all the afflictions that connect with habitual tendencies, the afflictions of those who possess the Hearers or solitary Buddhas? Blessed One, if no dharma that is to arise arises, how will one attain omniscience without generating those dharmas?" The Blessed One said: "Subhuti, it is so, it is so.
