Where does the Fully Awakened Buddha fully comprehend the minds of those sentient beings, both in their collected state and in their state of unceasing distraction, just as they are in reality? Subhuti, how does the Tathagata know the collected minds of those sentient beings and the nature of their unceasingly distracted minds, just as they are in reality? Subhuti, the Tathagata fully comprehends the minds of those sentient beings in the nature of detachment from desire, cessation, and complete abandonment, just as they are in reality. The Tathagata, the Arhat, the Fully Awakened Buddha, fully comprehends the minds of those sentient beings in the nature of collectedness, and the nature of pacified, nonexistent, and solitary distracted minds, just as they are in reality; this is the knowledge of the nature of the unceasing mind. Furthermore, Subhuti, the Tathagata fully comprehends the minds of those sentient beings: with regard to a mind with desire, he knows it as a mind with desire, just as it is in reality. With regard to a mind without desire, he knows it as a mind without desire, just as it is in reality. With regard to a mind with hatred, he knows it as a mind with hatred, just as it is in reality. With regard to a mind without hatred, he knows it as a mind without hatred, just as it is in reality. With regard to a mind with delusion, he knows it as a mind with delusion, just as it is in reality. With regard to a mind without delusion, he knows it as a mind without delusion, just as it is in reality. Subhuti asked: World Honored One, how does the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Fully Awakened Buddha, fully comprehend the minds of those sentient beings, knowing a mind with desire as a mind with desire, just as it is in reality? How does he fully comprehend a mind with hatred as a mind with hatred, just as it is in reality? How does he fully comprehend a mind with delusion as a mind with delusion, just as it is in reality? The World Honored One replied: Good

Subhuti, whatever constitutes the mind's attachment, hatred, and delusion is not the true nature of the mind. Why is that? Subhuti, a mind that has become truly as it is has no object of focus, and the phenomena that arise from the mind also have no object of focus. What need is there to mention a mind with attachment, hatred, or delusion having an object of focus? Subhuti, therefore, the Tathagata, relying on this Perfection of Wisdom, truly knows the minds of those beings: a mind with attachment as a mind with attachment; a mind with hatred as a mind with hatred; a mind with delusion as a mind with delusion. Subhuti, similarly, the Tathagata truly knows the minds of those beings: a mind without attachment as a mind without attachment; a mind without hatred as a mind without hatred; a mind without delusion as a mind without delusion. Subhuti, whatever constitutes the mind's freedom from attachment is not the mind itself with attachment. Why is that? Because two minds do not associate or meet. Subhuti, similarly, whatever constitutes the mind's freedom from hatred is not the mind itself with hatred. Subhuti, whatever constitutes the mind's freedom from delusion is not the mind itself with delusion. Why is that? Because two minds do not associate or meet. Subhuti, therefore, the Tathagata truly knows the minds of those beings: a mind without attachment as a mind without attachment; a mind without hatred as a mind without hatred; a mind without delusion as a mind without delusion.

Furthermore, "knowing well" means knowing things like attachment. Subhuti, furthermore, the Tathagata, relying on this profound Perfection of Wisdom, truly knows, as it is, that the minds of other beings and other individuals are vast, which is called "vast mind." Subhuti, how does the Tathagata, relying on the Perfection of Wisdom, truly know, as it is, that the minds of other beings and other individuals are vast, which is called "vast mind"? Subhuti, in this case, the Tathagata, relying on this profound Perfection of Wisdom, truly knows, as it is, that the minds of other beings and other individuals are not vast, not small, not increasing, not decreasing, not coming, and not going. Why is that? Subhuti, because this, like the vast mind, up to not going, is without intrinsic nature. Subhuti, thus, the Tathagata, relying on this Perfection of Wisdom, truly knows, as it is, that the minds of other beings and other individuals are vast, which is called "vast mind," which is knowing the vast mind. Subhuti, furthermore, the Tathagata, relying on the Perfection of Wisdom, truly knows, as it is, that the minds of other beings and other individuals have become vast, which is called "having become vast." Subhuti, how does the Tathagata, relying on this Perfection of Wisdom, truly know, as it is, that the minds of other beings and other individuals have become vast, which is called "having become vast"? Subhuti, in this case, the Tathagata truly knows the minds of other beings and other individuals, that they have coming, going, birth, cessation, abiding, and change.
