The venerable Subhuti said thus: "Venerable Subhuti, how does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, when practicing the six Paramitas, perfect the path to Bodhi?" Subhuti said: "Venerable Shariputra, the Paramita of Generosity is both worldly and transworldly. The Paramita of Morality, the Paramita of Patience, the Paramita of Diligence, the Paramita of Meditation, and the Paramita of Wisdom are also both worldly and transworldly." He said: "Venerable Subhuti, what is the worldly Paramita of Generosity? What is the transworldly?" Subhuti said: "Venerable Shariputra, here, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices generosity and becomes a lord of generosity, giving to ascetics, Brahmins, the poor, the hungry, travelers, beggars, and those who desire food, giving them food and drink, vehicles, clothing, flowers, garlands, incense, ointments, dwellings, bedding, implements, medicine, and whatever else humans may need. To those who desire a son, he gives a son. To those who desire a daughter, he gives a daughter. To those who desire a wife, he gives a wife. To those who desire a kingdom, he gives a kingdom. To those who desire a head, he gives a head. To those who desire limbs and hands and feet, he gives limbs and hands and feet. To those who desire flesh and blood and bones, he gives flesh and blood and bones. He abides and gives, thinking, 'I am the giver. This is the receiver. This is the giving. I am without stinginess. I am the lord of generosity. I am the one who completely gives away all possessions. I am the one who acts according to the Buddha's teachings. I am the one who practices the Paramita of Generosity.' Having given in this way, he also dedicates it in a focused manner, sharing it with all sentient beings, and dedicating it to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete Bodhi, and wishing that by this fruit of my generosity, these sentient beings, in this very life, may be without happiness and attachment, and may attain complete Nirvana."

completely dedicate, clinging to three attachments, and completely abandoning the giving. What are the three? Thus, clinging to the notion of self, clinging to the notion of others, and clinging to the notion of giving, clinging to these three and completely abandoning those givings, this is called the worldly perfection of giving. Why is it called the worldly perfection of giving? Because it does not waver from the world, does not excel, does not transcend, therefore it is called the worldly perfection of giving. Then, what is the transcendental perfection of giving? Thus, the three spheres are completely pure. What is the complete purity of the three spheres? Venerable Shariputra, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva gives, he does not fixate on the self, does not fixate on the receiver, does not fixate on the giving, and does not rejoice in the ripening. Venerable Shariputra, this is the complete purity of the three spheres of a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva. Venerable Shariputra, why is it called the transcendental giving perfection? Because it wavers from the world, excels and transcends, therefore it is called the transcendental perfection of giving. Morality, patience, diligence, and meditation are also the same. Shariputra said: Venerable Subhuti, what is the worldly perfection of wisdom? And what is the transcendental? Subhuti said: Shariputra, here, the worldly perfection of wisdom is that a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva thinks: I should not generate a mind of stinginess, relying on the object of focus, he gives, and abiding in the notions of self, sentient beings, and giving, he abandons all possessions and completely abandons them, whether they are external or internal, grasped or ungrasped, there is nothing that is not abandoned, and that root of virtue is also shared with all sentient beings, relying on the object of focus, he completely dedicates it to enlightenment, and that merit of body, speech, and mind, relying on the object of focus, is cultivated

One relies on the precepts that are well established. When relying on the path of the ten virtuous actions, one also relies on the view of self, the view of sentient beings, and the view of virtue, and focuses on enlightenment. One shares it with all sentient beings and also dedicates those precepts to enlightenment. Furthermore, in the manner of focusing, one praises oneself and denigrates others. One relies on oneself, sentient beings, and patience, and endures the offenses committed by all sentient beings. And that root of virtue is also shared with all sentient beings in the manner of focusing, and is dedicated to the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. One focuses on the body, focuses on the mind, focuses on the accumulation of merit and the accumulation of wisdom, focuses on oneself, and focuses on enlightenment. One exerts effort, and that effort becomes pride. That effort is also dedicated to the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment in the manner of focusing. One cultivates loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity, and engages in meditative absorption. Even when one has entered into absorption and abandoned it, one experiences its taste, and that experience of taste also becomes pride. Therefore, in the manner of focusing, one shares the root of virtue with all sentient beings and dedicates it to the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. One focuses on form as being empty. From focusing on feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness as being empty, up to focusing on enlightenment and Buddhahood, one cultivates all emptiness in the manner of focusing, and that root of virtue is also shared with all sentient beings in the manner of focusing, and is dedicated to the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. In the manner of focusing, one individually confesses all sins and rejoices in the virtue of oneself and others. In the manner of focusing, for the benefit of oneself and others, one prays to all the Buddhas. With unskilled means, one shares with all sentient beings and dedicates all the roots of virtue in the three times to omniscience.
