If one thinks that one is practicing in the perfection of wisdom, then one is practicing in characteristics. If a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva thinks of selflessness, then that one is practicing in characteristics. Blessed One, if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva thinks, 'Whatever practices in that way, that is practicing in the perfection of wisdom,' if one thinks that is the perfection of wisdom, then one is practicing in characteristics. That should be recognized as a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who is unskilled in means. Then, the venerable Shariputra said to the venerable Subhuti, 'Venerable Subhuti, how is this Bodhisattva-Mahasattva to be recognized as unskilled in means?' Subhuti said, 'Venerable Shariputra, if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, when practicing in the perfection of wisdom, dwells in form, particularly delights in it, and fully knows it; dwells in feeling, particularly delights in it, and fully knows it; dwells in perception, particularly delights in it, and fully knows it; dwells in formations, particularly delights in it, and fully knows it; dwells in consciousness, particularly delights in it, and fully knows it, then that one dwells in form, particularly delights in it, and fully knows it; dwells in feeling, particularly delights in it, and fully knows it; dwells in perception, particularly delights in it, and fully knows it; dwells in formations, particularly delights in it, and fully knows it; dwells in consciousness, particularly delights in it, and fully knows it; that is practicing in the manifestation of form. Feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are also practicing in the manifestation of aggregates. Therefore, that one is not completely liberated from birth, old age, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, distress, and agitation, and is said to be not completely liberated from great suffering. and aging, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, and distress, and is not completely liberated from great suffering. Venerable Shariputra, if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva does not even have the opportunity to realize the Hearer's stage or the Solitary Buddha's stage, what need is there to mention that he will realize the Unsurpassed Perfect and Complete Enlightenment? That is impossible. Venerable Shariputra, if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom in this way, it should be known as unskilled in means. The Blessed One said: Venerable Subhuti, how should a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practice the Perfection of Wisdom, so that it is known as skilled in means? Subhuti said: Venerable Shariputra, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he does not abide in form, has no particular liking, has no complete knowledge, and also with feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness, he does not abide in form, has no particular liking, has no complete knowledge, and similarly, even up to the Dharmas of the Buddhas, he does not abide in form, has no particular liking, has no complete knowledge, therefore he does not act with form. He does not act with feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness. He does not act with the characteristics of form. He does not act with the characteristics of feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness. He does not act with form being permanent or impermanent.
