Bhagavan, this so-called Bodhisattva is just a name. Bhagavan, just like the so-called "I, I," there is actually no truly existing "I." Bhagavan, similarly, the so-called "Bodhisattva, Bodhisattva," there is actually no truly existing Bodhisattva. Therefore, for these dharmas that have no inherent nature, where would there be a truly existing form? Where would there be a truly existing feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness? Bhagavan, whatever does not truly exist, that is not form. Whatever does not truly exist, that is not feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness. Bhagavan, since it is like that, how can one teach and instruct Prajnaparamita to something that does not truly exist? Or, apart from something that does not truly exist, how can one designate a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who will practice the path to enlightenment? If when teaching in this way, the mind of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva does not become discouraged, does not become completely discouraged, does not regret, does not fear, does not panic and become afraid, then that Bodhisattva Mahasattva is practicing Prajnaparamita. Then, the venerable Shariputra said to the venerable Subhuti: Venerable Subhuti, why is it that a Bodhisattva Mahasattva has nothing to designate in the prior limit? Nothing to designate in the posterior limit? Nothing to designate in the middle? Venerable Subhuti, why is it? Because form is all-pervasively boundless, therefore one should know that the Bodhisattva is all-pervasively boundless. Because feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness are all-pervasively boundless, therefore one should know that the Bodhisattva is all-pervasively boundless. Venerable Subhuti, why is it? Because the so-called form Bodhisattva, something like that does not exist and is not designatable. The feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness Bodhisattva, something like that does not exist and is not designatable. Venerable Subhuti, why is it? Because saying it like that...

If a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva does not see, does not observe, in all places, in all aspects, in all ways, correctly, then how should one instruct and indicate a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva to practice the Perfection of Wisdom? Reverend Subhuti, why do you say that? World Honored One, I say "Bodhisattva-Mahasattva" is just a name. Reverend Subhuti, why do you say that? I say "I, I," but "I" is not truly existent. World Honored One, similarly, I say "Bodhisattva, Bodhisattva," but a Bodhisattva is not truly existent. Thus, in the self-nature of all dharmas being without substance, where can one see that form is truly existent? Feeling, perception, formation, consciousness, where can one see that they are truly existent? Whatever is not truly existent is not form. Whatever is not truly existent is not feeling, perception, formation, consciousness. Reverend Subhuti, why do you say that? Is one to instruct and indicate something that is not truly existent to practice the Perfection of Wisdom that is not truly existent? Reverend Subhuti, why do you say that? Apart from what is not truly existent, one also does not observe what is called a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva. Reverend Subhuti, why do you say that? If, when teaching in this way, the mind of the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva does not become dejected, does not become completely dejected, does not regret, is not afraid, is not frightened, is not terrified, then that Bodhisattva-Mahasattva is practicing the Perfection of Wisdom. After saying these words, Reverend Subhuti said these words to Reverend Shariputra: Reverend Shariputra, because there are no sentient beings, a Bodhisattva does not observe the prior limit. Because sentient beings are emptiness, sentient beings are tranquility, because sentient beings are without self-nature, a Bodhisattva does not observe the prior limit. Reverend Shariputra.
