Wherever the wind touches a limb of a poisonous snake, one should focus one's attention there. This is the complete purification of wind. Or, using blue lotuses, trees such as kinikarika, or saffron, spread a blue cloth, or any container such as a lidded vessel, spread it out and fill it. Cover the blue cloth like the face of a large drum, or other brightly colored malachite, or blue lapis lazuli, or blue eye medicine, or any kind of paint, and make a circular mandala on the wall. Paint it round and completely separate it with any different color. Sit near it on a comfortable seat and begin to focus your mind. This should be done through blue. Yellow, red, and white are also done in the same way, the difference being that wherever there is blue, it should be replaced with yellow, etc. Or, light a lamp inside a vase and cover it, making a small hole, not too big. Place it facing the wall, and the light from the lamp will strike the wall, forming a lasting halo. Focus on this, and this should be done through complete consciousness. Or, in a place not covered by a platform, wall, grass mat, cloth, etc., or not completely covered, or completely covered, make a hole one span high or four fingers wide, and focus on this. This complete separation should be done through the sky. Thus, for the time being, one should understand that these are special methods of purification. Whether completely purified or not completely purified, two characteristics will arise: clinging and separate appearance. The characteristic of clinging to water is the state of violent shaking, such as bubbles, blisters, and mixed rain, etc. Merely remaining near this state should be known as a fault of purification. The characteristic of separate appearance is the unwavering covering of the sky, like a jeweled fan, or existing like a mandala of a mirror made of jewels. The characteristic of clinging to fire

Or, the top part shakes, or, it exists as if broken. Here, for the unaccomplished, one should know the fault of exhaustion, such as a torch, a fragment of tinder, ashes, and smoke, only a little remains. The individually appearing sign is, like red wax placed like the sky, or like a golden whisk, or like a golden pillar, it exists nearby. The sign of exhausting the holding of wind is, like the top of the steam of freshly boiled milk. The individually appearing sign is, like a stable sitting posture, it will not shake. Exhausting blue is, a Gesar flower without pistils, and a Gesar flower with pistils, one of which is like a petal unfolding, one should know this is the fault of exhaustion. The individually appearing sign is, the exhausted mandala rises upwards, appearing like a jewel dust whisk in the sky. For exhausting yellow and so on, it is also the same way. The sign of exhausting the holding of discriminating consciousness is, rising upwards from an earthen wall, it becomes like a circle. The individually appearing sign is, beautiful and clear, like a collection of appearances. The sign of exhausting the holding of space is, it becomes like a hole in the edge of a wall, and even if it increases, it will not increase. The individually appearing sign is, it becomes the center of space and exists, and even if it increases, it will not increase. Thus, here, one should know the difference between the exhausted holding of pure and impure, and the individually appearing signs. For those nine signs, one should also abide comfortably, abandoning the intention of examining colors, for the name of the exhausted "earth," do not look with the eyes, but only by examining, settle the mind. Water, water, fire, fire, etc., and the freedom of clearly explaining their names, should be learned. Thus, one should know the difference of learning each of them. After learning in this way, for them, as before, the samadhi accompanied by near practice, these will arise. Also, anyone who obtains the freedom of the exhausted "earth," obtains supernatural powers, and will also change from one to many, or in the sky or water, transform into earth, walking with two feet, etc., and the differences of shaking, etc., these will be accomplished. Also, exhaust

Furthermore, having obtained mastery over water, one can burrow into the earth, rise upwards, rain down showers of water, transform into rivers and oceans, and manifest as land and mountains, etc. Furthermore, having obtained mastery over fire, one can emit smoke, make flames blaze intensely, rain down showers of sparks, subdue flames, be able to burn whatever one desires, be able to generate the appearance of the field of vision of the divine eye, be able to manifest, be able to completely pass into nirvana, or be able to attain the ability to burn the body at will, etc. Furthermore, having obtained mastery over wind, one can move like the wind and be able to generate masses of wind, etc. Furthermore, having obtained mastery over blue, one can transform into a blue form and create darkness, etc. Furthermore, having obtained mastery over yellow, one can transform into a yellow form and be able to transform into gold, etc. Furthermore, having obtained mastery over red, one can transform into a red form, etc. Furthermore, having obtained mastery over white, one can transform into a white form, be able to dispel sleep and drowsiness far away, destroy darkness, and manifest the appearance of the field of vision of the divine eye, etc. Furthermore, having obtained mastery over consciousness, one can transform into a luminous form, keep sleep and drowsiness far away, and generate the appearance of the field of vision of the eye, etc. Furthermore, having obtained mastery over space, one can make obscurations become unobscured, transform into space between land and mountains, etc., thereby demonstrating conduct, and be able to pass directly through obstacles such as walls, etc. If one practices continuously, one will attain mastery. The spheres of mastery are eight. Internally, one perceives form, and even when seeing subtle beautiful and ugly forms externally, one subdues those forms and knows them. Seeing by subduing, and perceiving in this way, this is the first sphere of mastery. Similarly, internally one perceives no form, and externally the forms are coarse. Similarly, one should do this in four ways, or internally perceive no form itself.
