It is reasonable. However, if it is not actual clinging, then it would follow that it is the eye, etc., wouldn't it? Just as it is dissimilar, so it is actual clinging, and just as it is an antidote, so it is non-actual clinging. Furthermore, how is it dissimilar? It is the grasping of existence and non-existence that is aroused by untrue conceptualization. How is it an antidote? In any way, those are not there. Furthermore, how are those not there? When the venerable Shariputra was asked, 'If it is not mind, then for it, would existence or non-existence become an object?' he asked back, 'Which mind is called without mind?' This was answered by saying that there is no place and no knowledge. Showing the objects of the truths of cessation and path, and the distinctions of aspects, clinging to the cessation and path that should be realized and should be cultivated is a fault. This sutra is: 'This cessation should be realized, by this cessation is realized, this path should be cultivated, by this path should be cultivated and there should be no clinging,' and so on. Among these, 'like this' is said to be the four aspects spoken of for each of the truths such as arising, and 'by this' is said to be the limbs of enlightenment that have become the cause. By this, cessation and path are said to be the door of liberation without characteristics, and there are also three characteristics: the characteristic of clinging to what should be practiced and what should not be practiced among all defilements and pure dharmas, the characteristic of abiding in the training in what should be done and what should not be done, and the characteristic of skillful means and non-skillful means for the perfections such as generosity and non-perfections, etc. From those, the absence of characteristics is clearly shown in a reversed manner. For all defilements and pure dharmas, what should be practiced and what should not be practiced, what should be done and what should not be done, what should be learned and what should not be learned, and the perfections such as generosity.

Furthermore, being skilled in things other than the perfections, not being skilled in means, being attached, dwelling particularly, and having conceptions is craving for the conforming Dharma, which is called a fault. The sutra for this is: 'This is completely afflicted, this is completely purified, these dharmas should be cultivated, these dharmas should not be cultivated, this should be practiced, this should not be practiced,' and so forth, up to 'without attachment.' This is craving for the conforming conceptual Dharma. 'Conforming' means craving for the Dharma that enters into customs, which is a synonym for affliction. If one wonders what is understood as a fault of this Bodhisattva, it is a fault because it is the nature opposite to that which is without fault. Starting from 'In emptiness of the internal, emptiness of the external is not truly seen,' it is shown that all emptinesses individually negate seeing each other. The sutra for this is: 'In emptiness of the internal, emptiness of the external is not truly seen. In emptiness of the external, emptiness of the internal is not truly seen,' and so forth. Showing the nature of completely cutting off all signs of conceit, from the perspective of the path, is the prevention of conceit in knowing even the aggregates such as form, the perfections, the aspects of enlightenment, the individual correct knowledge, the powers, the fearlessnesses, the unmixed qualities of the Buddhas, and the mind of enlightenment and its name. The sutra for this is: 'One should train like this: form should be known,' and so forth, up to 'the qualities of the Buddhas should be known,' and 'the mind of enlightenment should be known, but one should not be conceited about it.' This clearly shows the object of the truth of the path in particular. There, 'the name of the mind of enlightenment should be known' means that these are just names. For example, one should see that the mind of enlightenment is not a substance, nor is it completely established. Why?

So, mind is not mind, because its nature is luminosity. As it is said: Why is that? Thus, mind is not mind, because the nature of mind is luminosity. Also, what is that mind whose nature is luminosity? Not being in perfect accordance with afflictions, and not being in perfect non-accordance is the characteristic of self-luminous nature. As it is said: Venerable Shariputra, whatever mind is not in accordance with desire, is not separate, from the Hearers, the mind of the Solitary Buddhas is not in accordance, is not separate, this is what is said, and so on. Speaking based on the assumption that something exists and is related to mind, is also: Venerable Subhuti, what is that existing mind, is that not mind? Therefore, what is taught is that it is unreasonable to ask whether that mind and non-mind are existence and non-existence themselves. The sutra for this is: Also, Venerable Shariputra, whatever mind does not exist, does it exist? Does it not exist? Is it not existence? Is it an object of focus? and so on. Why is this called no-mind? It is the characteristic of no-mind: no conceptualization, no change. As it is said: Venerable Shariputra, no conceptualization, no change, is called no-mind. Mind is without conceptualization and without change, and from the aggregates and so on up to perfect complete enlightenment, there is no change and no conceptualization. As it is said: Venerable Shariputra, just as the mind has no change and no conceptualization, so it is from the aggregates and so on up to perfect complete enlightenment, and so on. Mind and non-mind itself is self-luminous, from the beginning, up to this point, it should be understood that the distinction is shown by making the truth of the path independent. Making the distinction of cause independent, why is that? Whatever has the common characteristic of definitive discrimination and is in accordance with it, the Perfection of Wisdom is the Vehicle.
