This is the essential instruction on corpse contemplation. This shows the faults of attachment to the skin, and is the antidote for those who are attached to the color of external objects. Dogs and jackals, etc., devour each other in various ways, which is devouring. This shows the destruction of fleshy fullness, and is the antidote for those who are attached to the fullness of flesh such as breasts. Hands are also scattered in different places, heads are also scattered in different places, and feet are also scattered in different places in various ways. This is because limbs appear scattered, and is the antidote for those who are attached to the beauty of limbs. Bones are bone piles. The accumulation of bones, each connected, is regarded as a whole. This is because the bones of the body appear as uncoordinated things, and is the antidote for those who are attached to the wealth of bones such as teeth. Completely rotten, that is rotten. This is because the shape of the skin appears to shrink discordantly, and is the antidote for those who are attached to color and shape. Meditate that this body is also like a dead body, just like the first instruction. Other schools believe in ten kinds of impure contemplation. In addition to the contemplation of decay, there is also the contemplation of bones being cut and scattered. In order to counteract attachment to the assembled body, the body is cut with knives, etc., showing that it becomes a different state. The worm contemplation of worms gnawing is also to counteract the view of clinging to the body as self, showing the nature of various kinds of worms pervading the body. Among them, the first is the contemplation of scattering. Secondly, it is not an antidote, because it is the same as the antidote for clinging to self and regarding the decaying aggregate as the body. The contemplation of decay is the antidote for attachment to color and shape, so this should undoubtedly be included in the count. Therefore, the nine impure contemplations are the best. The so-called eight discriminations of a great man are as stated in the sutra. How does it appear in the sutra? This is the Dharma of those with few desires, not of those with many desires. This is contentment and

Seclusion and, diligent practice and, mindfulness abiding and, samadhi and, belong to those who possess wisdom, but not to those with shallow wisdom. The venerable Maudgalyayana abides with these seven thoughts of a great person, and the Blessed One also said to Maudgalyayana, "You should contemplate these eight thoughts of a great person! This is the Dharma without elaboration, and it possesses the manner of a monastery that does not rely on a monastery without elaboration." Thus he spoke. Here, with few desires, one abandons four things, namely, pretense, flattery, enticement, and measuring by gain. Among these, what is called pretense is as stated in the sutra: Here, someone desires gain, and desiring gain, respect, and reverence, with a mind bound by dependence, becomes a dweller in the wilderness, or dwells in rags from a dust heap, or cultivates any virtue from a single seat. At that time, he thinks thus: Wouldn't it be better if others served, respected, offered, and revered me? I should also accomplish gain, respect, and reverence. Thinking thus, he praises gain and so on for the sake of gain and respect. The thought of such behavior is called pretense. What is called flattery is this: Here, someone with dependence on gain and respect says to others: You are like my mother, like my father, like my sibling, like any relative, like a blood relative. Because you are like that, my giving and so on are also for your sake. I come to you from a distant place for your sake, and staying here is also for your sake. Thus he speaks, but they mostly do not respect him. He strives for gain, and with a mind bound by dependence on desiring gain and so on, he speaks flattering words to others in that way, completely uttering false words related to the fruit of the desired matter.

English
This action is called flattery. Persuasion means the act of obtaining something through flattery without being explicit, for the sake of gain. For example, saying, "This alms bowl is beautiful," "This Dharma robe, monastic skirt, cushion, or this crooked key is good," "This item is good." If only I could get something like this, but it is difficult to find a donor. No matter which house you go to, say this: "Your rice is good," "Your food is good," "This clothing is good," "Your food or supplies are good." You have given to us before, and if we could also receive your giving, that would be great, but now you do not consider giving to us, or doing this," like this, expressing greed with unclear words, thereby engaging in the act of persuasion, that is persuasion. Gaining by gain means that someone, seeking to obtain gain, because of longing for gain etc., is bound by attachment, and says to others: "You should not give to your mother, nor to your father, nor to your sister, nor to your relatives, nor to any in-laws, who are you giving to?" No matter whose house you go to, say to him: "If you go to your house, an Arhat resides in your house, do not be like you. Living together with an Arhat, sitting together, and talking about related matters, you will gain great benefit, obtain good wealth, your life will be meaningful." He thinks this way, and also makes others think this way: "Except for the noble ones, I do not allow any Bhikshus or Brahmins to enter my house. This noble one, if he is an Arhat, that would be good." Wherever one seeks to obtain gain and is bound by attachment to gain, proclaiming this to others in such a manner is gaining by gain.
