and clinging to existence and non-existence. If asked, how is it an antidote? Answer: How can those be absent? Again, if asked, how can those be absent? Answer: Just as it will be explained immediately. Venerable Shariputra, if that which is without mind, for it, existence itself or non-existence itself, is absent or invisible, then, what is that mind without mind, does it exist? Such a refutation is reasonable. This also particularly refers to non-attachment and omniscience. In terms of the truths of cessation and the path, speaking through the object of warmth and the distinctions of aspects, is to manifest cessation in this way. Through this, cessation is manifested. The path is to be cultivated in this way. And so on, is without manifest clinging. Among them, through the word "this way," the four aspects of each of the four truths are taught. Through the word "this," the aspects of enlightenment that have become its collection are taught. Here, cessation and the path are said to be the gate of liberation without characteristics. There are three kinds of characteristics: relying on all afflictions and pure dharmas; not relying on what should be relied upon, is the characteristic of manifest clinging; for what should be practiced and what should not be practiced, it is the basis of learning and not learning, it is the characteristic of abiding; generosity and other perfections, and non-perfections, etc., are skillful means and non-skillful means, it is the characteristic of omniscience. In order to show the absence of characteristics opposite to these, it is taught: This is all affliction, this is purity, these dharmas should be relied upon, these dharmas should not be relied upon, up to this is skillful means, this is non-skillful means. Like this, clinging, abiding, and omniscience, for the great Bodhisattva, attachment to the dharmas that are in accordance with it, is a fault, and so on. Attachment to the dharmas of realizing accordance. Accordance is attachment to the dharma of entering the right path. Fault is the meaning of affliction.

Words! Attachment that is in accordance with the realized Dharma is said to be a great fault at the peak of a Bodhisattva. In accordance with this, Shariputra, the venerable one! A great Bodhisattva who is unskilled in means, practices the six perfections, relies on the three doors of liberation, and neither falls into the level of a Shravaka or a Pratyekabuddha, nor enters the faultless state of a Bodhisattva, this is said to be a great fault at the peak of a Bodhisattva. Thus it is said. Furthermore, what is the faultlessness of a Bodhisattva? Starting from "not seeing outer emptiness as inner emptiness," for each of those who see emptiness in all ways, mutually preventing each other, thus it is proclaimed. This shows the cessation without characteristics because the nature and characteristics of oneself disappear. Here, the path is also without characteristics. As it is said, by learning in this way, one should know form, but one should not have a conceited mind, and up to knowing the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha, but one should not have a conceited mind, and up to knowing the mind of enlightenment, but one should not have a conceited mind. This, with the absence of the characteristic of conceit, is the path without characteristics, showing the distinction of the object of the truth of the path. If it is said, because it is like a raft, should it also be abandoned? Why is that? Because, the mind is not the mind, but the nature of the mind, because it is luminous. Thus it is said. What is this luminous nature of the mind? Shariputra, the venerable one! The mind, whether it is desire, or whether it is associated or disassociated with the mind of a Shravaka or a Pratyekabuddha, that is it. Thus and so forth it is proclaimed. Merely existing, and thinking of it in connection, it is said: Subhuti, the venerable one! Does that mind called non-mind exist? Thus it is said. Not even tolerating being merely established as existing, it is said: Shariputra, the venerable one! That which is without mind, is it existence itself, or is non-existence itself existent, or does it become an object? Thus it is said, that kind of refutation is not
