In summary, it is categorized into two types. The first three are the aspiration for Bodhicitta. The remaining nineteen are the engagement in Bodhicitta. Among them, aspiration is the cause for pursuing the goal. Therefore, here, praying to achieve Buddhahood for the benefit of others is the aspiration for Bodhicitta. Engagement in Bodhicitta is preceded by upholding vows, and practicing generosity, etc., is the meaning of engagement. This is the mind of upholding vows, which is the very mind that pervades all five. Its characteristics are that it cannot be pointed out and is without obstruction. The classifications are common, such as refraining from killing, etc.; and uncommon, such as refraining from harmful thoughts, etc., and striving for the benefit of others, etc., all of these. The mind of upholding vows, because it does not allow the three doors of body, speech, and mind to engage in inappropriate actions, is a vow. Generating Bodhicitta and upholding vows should also be received from a lama who has generated Bodhicitta, abides in vows, and is skilled and capable. If there is no such lama, one should receive it by mentally visualizing the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. This is the ritual for generating Bodhicitta and upholding vows. After that, one should protect it, and even for the sake of one's life, one should not break the vows. Because one's own death, in countless lifetimes, the accumulated flesh is larger than Mount Meru, the accumulated blood is more than the ocean, and the accumulated bones are more than the trees. Wandering meaninglessly, until this life, one has obtained various impure bodies, and has repeatedly experienced the great suffering of samsara. Therefore, one should not break the vows. The vows should also be protected with the same effort as when they were received from the lama. This is the ritual for protecting the vows without breaking them. Thus, one who is capable of becoming a vessel for the Great Vehicle, after hearing the key instructions of the Great Vehicle, should know all the characteristics of what should be abandoned in the common vehicle's teachings and the uncommon vehicle's teachings. If one does not understand the characteristics, one cannot practice, just like a blind person groping for butter. Therefore, one should know the characteristics by preceding with the wisdom of hearing and thinking. This is the ritual for fully knowing the characteristics. Thus, one who is capable of becoming a vessel and has come to know the characteristics should cultivate Samadhi in order to tame the mind.

It is not accomplished by merely hearing. Therefore, the mind should be tamed by the wisdom of meditation. That also has five branches, namely, the individual who possesses the lineage generates the path in the continuum, and its object, what is to be abandoned, the means of abandonment, and the result of abandonment. Generating the path in the continuum also starts from a companion of the path, practicing insight, and then the actual path, which is practicing skillful means and wisdom. Among these, calm abiding is to be certain about any object, and the moment of the mind's continuum should be repeatedly focused on that. When the mind dwells on that object, it should be known that calm abiding is complete. Insight is the result of calm abiding, which is to examine that meaning itself. The result of insight is union, not dwelling on any object, thus clearly seeing that object, and at that time the mind becomes focused, thus extremely pacifying the pursuit of many goals. If that yogi's mind is disturbed by desire and so on, then the antidote to desire is ugliness, which is to practice impurity and so on. Similarly, the antidote to hatred is love. The antidote to ignorance is dependent origination. The antidote to pride is the analysis of the aggregates. The antidote to sinking is the perception of light, and remembering the qualities of the Buddha and so on. The antidote to excitement is to remember impermanence, thus pacifying the recollection of previous laughter, play, and joy. When the mind becomes displeased, one should think about the faults of displeasure and think about the qualities of samadhi, thus pacifying it. When the mind is free from sinking and excitement and so on, and becomes equal and dwells, one should relax effort and maintain equanimity, for if one strives to make the mind equal, it will become distracted. Thus, the person who trains in calm abiding and insight, from increasingly higher activities, from signless calm abiding and discriminating wisdom, will arise signless insight and non-discriminating wisdom. That is also accomplished by practicing the actual path, which is skillful means and wisdom. Meditation also has various classifications.
