And, its object, what should be abandoned, the method of abandoning, and the result of abandoning by this path. Among them, the path is the path of accumulation, the path of preparation, the path of seeing, and the path of meditation. The limbs of the path are calm abiding and insight, two kinds. The object is the object of entering and the object of focus, two kinds. What should be abandoned are the obscuration of afflictions and the obscuration of knowledge. The method of abandoning is to act according to the order of the path, to abandon the great with small antidotes, and to abandon the small with antidotes. From abandonment, two kinds of results arise. The behavior to be purified is of two kinds, namely, the state of walking and so on, and the state of non-absorption. Having explained it in detail like this, in order to explain it very extensively, the nature of generating the mind of enlightenment and so on should be stated. The object of generating the mind of enlightenment is to benefit others. The nature is to desire perfect and complete enlightenment. The divisions, if divided extensively, are twenty-two kinds. If summarized, there are four kinds. If summarized very briefly, there are two kinds. Among them, the twenty-two are, wanting to manifestly awaken to all dharmas, aspiration is like the earth; the characteristic of the practice of the six perfections is that it is desired not to change at all times, therefore thought is like gold; wanting those such as the dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment to increase, therefore superior thought is like the waxing moon; with non-discriminating wisdom, realizing that it is like the difference between people, therefore application is like fire; because the continuums of limitless sentient beings are satisfied, the perfection of generosity is like a treasure; because precious qualities arise from it, the perfection of discipline is like a source of jewels; because all unpleasant signs are unmoved, the perfection of patience is like a great ocean; because it relies on correct knowledge, it is indestructible, therefore the perfection of diligence is like a vajra; because it cannot be moved by the distraction of all objects, the perfection of meditation is like a mountain king; because the disease of the two obscurations is completely pacified, the perfection of wisdom is like medicine.

Like a lama, not abandoning the benefit of all sentient beings at all times and places, is the perfection of means; accomplishing deeds with the fruit of such prayers, is the perfection of prayers, like a wish-fulfilling jewel; fully ripening those to be tamed, is the perfection of power, like the sun; teaching the Dharma that makes the minds of those to be tamed happy, is the perfection of wisdom, like a melodious voice; realizing together with unobstructed power and direct perception, because of diligently working for the benefit of others, like a great king; realizing together with the accumulation of merit and wisdom, like a treasury; realizing together with the Dharma of the aspects of enlightenment, because following after all the noble ones, like a great path; realizing together with calm abiding and special insight, not falling into samsara or nirvana, going easily, like a vehicle; realizing together with dharani and fearlessness, because holding endless teachings and not being exhausted, like a treasure box; realizing together with the realm of Dharma, it is what those who desire liberation are happy to hear, like a sound; realizing together with the one path of travel, because the cause of all is one, because entering by its own nature, like a river; realizing together with the Dharmakaya, all activities of meaning are done relying on it, like a cloud. Thus, these twenty-one natures can be summarized into four: the three, such as aspiration, are the stage of the beginner, namely small, medium, and large; application is the stage of definite discrimination; the ten, such as generosity, are the stage of cause; the eight, such as direct perception, are the result, of which the first five are the path of distinction, the latter three are the door of application, actual practice, and conclusion, summarized in the Buddha-ground, that is, with what mind one engages in the initial action, and what makes the action complete, and from the action having been completed, accomplishing well, etc., the order is thus.
