The individual discernment of the Hearer Vehicle is preceded by the acceptance of external objects, contemplating the selflessness of the body and meditating on the Four Noble Truths. It considers the person to be emptiness, and the apprehended external object to be emptiness, and the mind that grasps internally to be emptiness, this is individual discernment. Among these, suffering is the nature of the aggregates, and should be known. Arising is conceptual thought, and should be abandoned. Cessation is the turning back of the senses from their objects, and should be realized. The emptiness of the three realms is like blocking a weasel from being killed, and not focusing on anything, this is meditation. Superimposing emptiness and permanence is a stain on meditative absorption. The distinction of accomplishing the benefit of others is view. The result of this is also with remainder and without remainder. With remainder is having abandoned desire but not having abandoned the body itself. Without remainder is having abandoned both desire and the body. This is the enlightenment of the Hearer. The individual discernment of the Solitary Realizer is like that of the superior and middling Hearers. Moreover, the distinction of this is that without a teacher, the self-arisen wisdom is inconceivable. That is to say, the Fully Perfect Buddha does not arise, and the wisdom of the Hearers and the departed, and the Solitary Realizers, arises without dependence. Thus it is said. The meditative absorption of this is calm abiding and insight. Insight is the turning back of the senses from the city of objects. Calm abiding is the thorough taming of body, speech, and mind, this is its meditation. Like drowsiness, the cessation of the sphere of activity of external objects, and deep sleep, the extreme cessation of mind and mental factors, is a stain on meditation. The view is the same as before. The result of this is practicing in a group and being like a rhinoceros. Moreover, the compassion of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers is also compassion focused on sentient beings, that is, the suffering of conditioning, the suffering of suffering, and the suffering of change. The suffering of conditioning is the nature of feeling neutral sensation. The suffering of suffering is the very nature of feeling painful sensation. The suffering of change is the very nature of feeling pleasurable sensation. Focusing on this and generating compassion is compassion focused on sentient beings. The Kashmiri Vaibhashika is that teaching.

This is a brief explanation of the Lesser Vehicle. Then, the Great Vehicle will also be explained. Among them, regarding the Vehicle of Reasoning, the final authority is the Sautrāntika school. Their individual analysis is that when examining external objects with six parts, the nature of coarse appearances does not exist. If examined with six parts, it is a dust particle. One-seventh of a dust particle in sunlight is a yak-hair dust particle. One-seventh of a yak-hair dust particle is a sheep-wool dust particle. One-seventh of a sheep-wool dust particle is a rabbit-hair dust particle. One-seventh of a rabbit-hair dust particle is a water dust particle. One-seventh of a water dust particle is an iron dust particle. One-seventh of an iron dust particle is a minute dust particle. One-seventh of a minute dust particle is an extremely minute dust particle. Thus, by examining in this way, it is believed that all external objects are not substantial. In this regard, the former view holds that the Lokāyata school believes that all extremely minute dust particles are combined into one part. If an extremely minute dust particle is a single part with divisions, then when focusing on a blue object and a blue consciousness arises, it would follow that all colors such as white and yellow would become one, because they are one. Therefore, extremely minute dust particles are unmixed, possessing parts as fine as a yak's tail, and their manner of combination is invisible. However, if it is invisible, how is its existence proven? Because this manifest consciousness with aspects is produced and exists by the object, it is known that extremely minute dust particles exist. Thus, the meaning of external objects is that the consciousness born from non-substantial extremely minute dust particles is a momentary consciousness with aspects, and this is the individual analysis. There are two types of meditation: the stage of familiarization and the stage of realization. Among them, the stage of familiarization is, first, to turn the sense faculties away from attachment to objects, which is inconceivable. Among them, the inconceivable is to visualize Vajrasattva, with a white body, and in his heart, on the sun, at the center of the vajra, is the syllable (ཧཱུཾ, Devanagari: hūṃ, Romanized: hūṃ, meaning: Destroyer). Then, gather the sun into the heart of Vajrasattva. The sun is also gathered into the vajra. The vajra is gathered into the syllable (ཧཱུཾ, Devanagari: hūṃ, Romanized: hūṃ, meaning: Destroyer). The syllable (ཧཱུཾ, Devanagari: hūṃ, Romanized: hūṃ, meaning: Destroyer) is also the nature of the six Tathāgatas. The foot-born (ཨུ, Devanagari: u, Romanized: u, meaning: ) is the nature of Amoghasiddhi. The body (ཧ, Devanagari: ha, Romanized: ha, meaning: ) is Amitābha. The head is Ratnasambhava. The moon is Vairocana. The bindu is Akshobhya. The sound is Vajrasattva. Thus, this is the foot-born of (ཧཱུཾ, Devanagari: hūṃ, Romanized: hūṃ, meaning: Destroyer). Between the (ཧ, Devanagari: ha, Romanized: ha, meaning: ) sound, in sequence.
