The Bodhisattva is the very nature or essence of all aspects of Bodhicitta, and therefore is pleased solely through recitation or meditation, etc. This means that one wishes to accomplish through Samadhi meditation by means of the mind. Therefore, the ritual of offering the single-mudra mandala is also stated in the root great tantra itself. "In the center of the tiered building" refers to the center of the tiered building previously shown, that is, after drawing lines, etc., in the Vajradhatu and other mandalas, a circular Vajra wheel is made within the mandala, and a lunar disc is visualized within it. In the center of that, one should visualize the glorious Vajrasattva residing. This means that in the center of the lunar disc, one should visualize the glorious Vajrasattva residing with whatever color and attire he possesses. Some say that the word "mudra" means that when drawing this single-mudra mandala, one does not place the Dharma mudra or the Samaya mudra in the center where the image of Vajrasattva is not placed, but when thinking and meditating, one meditates as having the attire of the great mudra. Likewise, even at the time of the single mudra, the reason for performing the ritual of the great mandala in what manner is from the root great tantra itself: "By the manner of the great mandala." And so on. The essence of thus establishing is Oṃ Vajrasattva Om, Vajra, Heroic). The Bhagavan Vairochana himself extracted it from his heart in order to gather the great mandalas such as the Vajradhatu into a single-mudra mandala. The teaching of this mantra is also like the teaching of this essence in the upper mandalas in order to take care of and bless the deities, so here also this essence is taught in order to bless the lord of the Vajrasattva mandala. "As the great mandala" means that just as these are visualized in the sky and offered through the ritual of recitation and meditation, so too should offerings be made to those (mandalas) drawn on cloth and thangkas, etc. If asked why it needs to be manifested, the glorious That

In the context of explaining the four-mudra mandala in the *Na Nyid Düpa*, it is said, "Just as one contemplates in the sky, drawing on cloth and so forth also bestows accomplishments." Similarly, in the context of the single-mudra mandala, this is also taught in the same way. The reason why the Vajradhatu great mandala's ritual is extensive is that it is similarly a source of accomplishment. From this, it is known that contemplating the great mandala and the four-mudra mandala, reciting mantras, bestows whatever desired accomplishments, and similarly, contemplating the single mudra also bestows all accomplishments. The explanation of the cloth ritual refers to the later part of the *Later Tantra*, where the ritual of drawing on cloth is explained for the sake of sentient beings with little merit. The term "Bhagavan on cloth" refers to the practice of having a well-cleaned cloth and a painter who observes purification vows, using colors rich in hues to depict the Bhagavan Tathagatas along with the retinue of their respective families' goddesses. Here, "Tathagata" refers to whichever of the five Tathagatas one is devoted to; any of them is acceptable. The phrase "in the manner of the four-mudra mandala" means that in the retinue of each of these, Vajrasattva and the other four great Bodhisattvas are established as the mandala to be contemplated, established in the manner of mudras. The "family goddesses" refers to the eight inner and outer offering goddesses. The "heart mantra and so forth" refers to the heart mantras of the five deities. The word "and so forth" includes other mantras and mudras as well. The phrase "great Bodhisattvas who rely on them" refers to the Bodhisattvas of each of their respective families who rely on each of the Tathagatas. This is taught in order to please them through recitation and contemplation. Up to this point, the ritual of the single mudra and the ritual of drawing on cloth are concluded, and the ritual of pleasing them has been explained. Thus, having explained the practice of pleasing the deities through the application of meditation, the rituals of inviting and offering will be explained next, namely, "Having previously done the deity's meditation and so forth," it is said. From the extensive aspect
