The Blessed One said: Why did Shakyamuni accumulate merit for countless aeons? If one does not realize this meaning, even if one abides in meditation at Nairañjana (Sanskrit Devanagari: नैर्ऋञ्जन, Sanskrit Romanization: Nairañjana, Literal meaning: Nairañjana River), it is meaningless. At that time, all the Sugatas also prevented those who were attached to habitual thoughts, and clearly revealed the profound and clear non-duality like the expanse of the sky. Like the Victorious Ones in the middle of the night, by meditating on that, at dawn, they realized it in an instant. Having entered the Bodhi Tree, they subdued the great army of demons, and for the sake of taming sentient beings, they turned the Wheel of Dharma. From then on, this supreme meaning has been transmitted from mouth to mouth and ear to ear to a few fortunate ones, and the definitive meaning has been taught. Thus it is said. Therefore, it should be known that all Buddhas attain enlightenment in this way. If it is possible to attain Buddhahood through other paths, then they would have to rely on a guru. Therefore, the result, the three kayas, is one, and its path is this practice of mantra. As it is said in the Guhyasamaja Tantra: The Buddhas arise from the three times, possessing the vajra of body, speech, and mind, and those who attain immeasurable wisdom are those who meditate on the meaning of vajra mantra. Thus it is said. It should also be known that there are four kinds of devotion to the practice of mantra. Some are those who, through external cleanliness and so on, and through the true nature of the self, please the supreme deity, and thus experience the glory of manifest highness, accumulate the accumulations of merit and wisdom, and desire to attain the state of Buddhahood. Others are those who abandon external cleanliness and so on, and what should and should not be done, and through meditation with and without signs, experience the glory of manifest highness, accumulate the two accumulations, and desire to attain the state of Buddhahood. Still others are those who despise cleanliness and so on, and through the inner yoga of samaya-sattva, and the outer jñana-sattva, pleasing their own deity through the sequence of the four mudras and so on, experience the glory of manifest highness, accumulate the accumulations of merit and wisdom, and desire to attain the state of Buddhahood. These are also pleasing to the Bhagavan.

These are the means spoken to subdue those to be tamed. It should be known that this is the joint action of Mahamudra. The joint action of Mahamudra is like this: For those who have blazing diligence in the method of examining the nature of the mind as it is, with the stages of generation and completion, at every instant, they train in everything including the vessel, essence, path, and fruit. Relying on yoga and mudra, from this very life they will reach the highest accomplishment, without any doubt, it is unsurpassed. The scripture that shows this is the glorious Guhyasamaja, what is it like? Eighty-four thousand collections of Dharma, because of gathering, are also excellent vessels. Because it dispels the darkness of ignorance, it is the best of lamps. Because it tames the mind like a wild horse, it is a suitable rein. Like an elephant of consciousness, for enticing, it is a supreme hook. It is the most excellent of yogas, the market of those with vows. From the great ocean of samsara, the boat that liberates is great. It is the ladder to ascend to the palace of higher realms and definite goodness. Destroying the city of afflictions arising from discrimination, and liberating from it, it is the king for protecting the wheel. The Bhagavan Great Vajradhara, the sutra section closely taught, and the tantra section that takes such a method, are what is said after all, the meanings are all determined there. The yogi who meditates on this meaning, the future Vajradhara, should strive with joy and without contention, guarding and remembering, and with mindfulness. The listeners of such a scripture, with the limb of acknowledgment that makes discrimination manifest, and with the excellent explanation that fully possesses the beginning, making other beings worthy of trust, is the meaning of the summary, therefore it is called "there." How the retinue transformed from wisdom, such as the Tathagatas, also showed the meaning of the tantra, should also be known there. The later meaning of that, how the venerable ones briefly showed the meaning of the tantra to beings who are worthy vessels, will be explained in detail in this order of sadhana. Among them, first is the Bodhi arising from the power of compassion.

Adorned with the giving of those with minds, according to the ritual in the wheel of the glorious assembly, having received the empowerment, perform this sequence. In any place, such as the site of a great monastery, on a square platform, smear excellent sandalwood and the like, spread a comfortable seat, and contemplate sitting in the vajra posture. First, at dawn, at sunrise, purify with Om and the like, the dark blue Hum (Tibetan: ཧཱུཾ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हूँ, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Hum). With rays of light, focus on what is seen, and meditate on compassion and the like. Illuminate the Buddhas with rays of light, and visualize the Lamas and others in front. Offer clouds of offerings with forms, vajras, and the like, and also prostrate. From beginningless time, in the stream of existence, all the sins cultivated by conceptualization, before you, who possess great compassion, clearly visualize and confess. Whatever merit there is of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and other noble beings, I rejoice in all of that, and dedicate it for the sake of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. The non-elaborate mind is like the moon, for the sake of limitless beings, the great body of skillful means, always inseparable from my mind, the Sugata is always my refuge. The perfect support of all the holy ones, who are certainly liberated from all conceptualizations, the one essence of all things, I always take refuge in the Dharma. To the assembly of the Lord of Discipline, who has completely abandoned all bonds, who is led by the glorious supreme compassion, who abides in great joy and the like, I prostrate. With pure intention, with pure ripening, having destroyed all the imprints of obscurations, with a mind adorned with non-retrogression, I generate the mind of enlightenment. The Sugata who possesses sons, the common path, the ten perfections, the nature of complete enlightenment, I will now declare here with my mind. Sentient beings who dwell in suffering, again focus with compassion, the immeasurable mind of enlightenment, I, the precious one, should contemplate. Because there is no self-nature, it is emptiness. Because there is no cause, there is no sign. Because it is free from subsequent thought, it is certain to be wishless. Om Shunyata Jnana Vajra Svabhava Atmako Ham. (Tibetan: ཨོཾ་ཤཱུ་ནྱ་ཏཱ་ཛྙཱ་ན་བཛྲ་སྭཱ་བྷཱ་ཝ་ཨཱཏྨ་ཀོ྅ཧཾ, Sanskrit Devanagari:, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ śūnyatā jñāna vajra svābhāva ātmako'haṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Om, emptiness, wisdom, vajra, self-nature, self, I am).
