It will not be changed because of that. As the Blessed One said, "Whatever Dharma is certain to produce Bodhi qualities, this is the meaning of discipline for those endowed with qualities. Whatever Dharma harms the Bodhi qualities of those who benefit, this is what those who are called breakers of discipline say." And as the Noble Inexhaustible Intelligence taught, "Those skilled in means should not disparage everything." Therefore, even if it seems the same in enjoying objects such as form, there will be a distinction between what is blameworthy and what is blameless due to the power of attachment. The enjoyment of those who have the nature of affliction, due to attachment, is the enjoyment of the five desires, which is the enjoyment of the realm of affliction; if there is no thought of affliction, then it is not entirely afflicted. There are three types: corresponding to worldly fruits, corresponding to one's own liberation from suffering, and corresponding to the unsurpassed fruit. The first is to generate the mind that empowers the object of attainment, such as the gods, in order to obtain heavens and so on. The second is the pursuit of enlightenment by the Hearers and so on, and therefore they individually contemplate the aspects of impermanence and so on in relation to forms and so on. As it is said in the Sutra of Valid Measure, "O monks, when a monk sees form with his eye, the forms harm him, but he does not harm the forms." And so on, "Because he abides focusing on impermanence, therefore form does not harm him." It is extensively taught in between. The third also has four aspects: entering with devotion to aspiration, entering with only that nature individually contemplated, entering with only a vast object, and entering with depth and vastness. Among these, for those who have obtained appearance through form and so on, following the experience of its own nature and essence, and preceding the thought of generating benefit for all beings, is precisely because from a completely pure field of activity, Bodhi arises here.

When a Bodhisattva's eyes see forms, etc., transformed into pleasant places, they should generate the thought: 'May all sentient beings attain the supreme body of the Tathagata.' When they see them transformed into unpleasant places, they should generate the thought: 'May all sentient beings become weary of the suffering of samsara.' When they see them transformed into neutral places, they should generate the thought: 'May all sentient beings have equanimity towards all dharmas.' Thus, it is extensively taught. Similarly, in the Ornament of the Sutras, it is said: 'Howsoever the sphere of the senses, the compassionate one enters by acting, thus, howsoever appropriately abiding, with compassion, makes manifest to sentient beings.' Thus, it is said. Secondly, with loving-kindness, relying on the realm of sentient beings, one should apply mindfulness with the discrimination of selflessness to all objects of enjoyment. As the Blessed One said to the son of good family, the monk who speaks the Dharma: 'In order to obstruct you, the Evil One shows forms, sounds, smells, tastes, and tactile objects that can transform the mind. Here, you should subdue and enjoy them with skillful means and wisdom.' Thus, it is extensively taught. Such mindfulness is the antidote to the arising of all faults. Why? Because even undesirable actions are diminished and exhausted by discriminating reality. Because of that power, the ability to produce the fruit of desire is also subdued. Where the nature of truly discriminating forms, etc., is understood, there is no opportunity for afflictive actions. The distinction of a reversed mind, afflictive actions, and the discrimination of selflessness are contradictory, so they cannot arise simultaneously. Thus, it is said: 'The various worlds are not desire, the conceptualization of a person, attachment, is desire. The various worlds remain as they are, but the steadfast abandon desire in this.' Thus, it is said. Thirdly, again, because of focusing on the vast, the nature of

Furthermore, the antidote to clinging to the ordinary body is itself the cause of being established in the state of perfect Buddhahood through lineage. It is for the sake of enjoying forms and so on that are in accordance with the pride of the nature of perfect Buddhahood. If that is indeed the case, then even meditating on the Blessed One as one's own nature is not the very nature of perfect Buddhahood. If that is so, then there would be no enjoyment of the ordinary self either, because in reality, forms and so on do not exist. It is like showing that forms and so on, which are made into objects by clinging to them, saying, "How do I see forms and so on?", do not exist in reality. Therefore, some clinging that does not depend on abiding in reality is unwholesome because it gives rise to unpleasantness, while other clinging is wholesome because it is necessary for the sake of the supreme person. This is what is seen in the Blessed One's scriptures. Therefore, even from the point of view of mere name, the pride of perfect Buddhahood is the cause of perfecting the supreme perfection. But it cannot be asserted that everything becomes virtuous by merely enjoying it oneself, because under the control of thought, it is also virtuous. Some Bodhisattvas for eighty thousand years offer every Tathagata and his eighty thousand retinue of monks with all the means of happiness for many eons; other Bodhisattvas also live by begging for the sake of upholding the Dharma. The Blessed One said that the latter will accumulate more merit than the former.
