Therefore, that will quickly obtain the fruit. It is said that this will manifest the characteristics of non-abiding nirvana. How is that? Anyone who studies the three methods. It is said that if one studies the three conducts, then the fruit will be manifested. Otherwise, it is not so. This indicates that without meditation, enlightenment will not be attained. In order to show this example: Just as fire resides in wood, it will not appear if not rubbed. Similarly, enlightenment, without learning, will not appear in this life. It is said that here the four great elements are not different from the nature of things. Therefore, even if the fire element resides within the wood, it will not appear. Only earth appears there. The causes that take near and act together mutually benefit, and reside in beneficial things. They reside in the nature of the principal and qualities, because they depend on one assembly. Therefore, if fire resides within the wood, it will not appear if not rubbed. Similarly, even if the nature of reality pervades the aggregates, etc., without learning, without meditation, it will not appear. Therefore, in order for the yogi who abides in the completion stage to realize it, one should become accustomed to the path of meditation. In order to bestow the sequence of objects of mind: Anyone who has a deceitful mind and is lazy, only sees the faults of the guru's afflictions, and not the qualities. Slandering the guru, presuming to have received empowerment, arrogance arises. Those with inferior intelligence, even with mind, will not attain perfect omniscience. It is said that this shows that such a student is not a vessel. What is that? One who has a deceitful mind, does not have an upright mind. One who is lazy, does not strive in virtuous dharma. Similarly, only seeing the faults of the guru, and not seeing the qualities, such as instructions and wisdom. Similarly, slandering the guru, thinking that my vajra master knows nothing, I, by the power of my own innate wisdom

The meaning of foolishness is, saying "The Lama has done nothing for me," which is slandering the Lama. Similarly, ordinary people like me have not attained omniscience, which refers to disciples with low knowledge. Similarly, wanting to quickly attain accomplishment without reverence and service, saying "This is not the true word," wavering with anger. When seeing the Lama in large gatherings, they turn their backs, and then when alone, they prostrate. These are easy to understand. Similarly, such a low disciple with a bad nature, even if he is one's own son, should be completely abandoned like a stranger. Even if born from a noble royal family or Brahmin caste, if of stubborn nature, he should never be kept close. This is saying that for a disciple of bad nature, even if he is one's own son, he should be abandoned. Among the three castes of Brahmins, etc., if there is someone of bad nature, he should be abandoned as before. This is a person like sandalwood, not a vessel for the Completion Stage. As it is said: "Hearing little and possessing arrogance, speaking much without foundation, unable to be tamed and guided, this is the so-called sandalwood person." Thus it is said. In order to explain a person like a precious jewel, possessing excellent qualities, diligent in wisdom, or, respecting the Lama as equal to the Buddha, understanding the Dharma of all Buddhas, and having great faith in the teachings, such a person is a vessel, therefore, kindness should be bestowed. Thus it is said, such a person is a vessel for this stage. What is that like? Excellent qualities refer to love, etc., and having faith, etc. The so-called "diligent in wisdom" means being diligent in the five sciences, therefore possessing wisdom, and striving to practice virtuous Dharma, therefore possessing diligence. Similarly, the Lama refers to the Vajra Master, seeing him as no different from the Buddha, similarly, the Dharma of the Buddhas refers to the three baskets, being proficient in the three baskets, and bestowing kindness on those who have faith in the teachings of the Bhagavan, this is explaining the meaning of the second stage. This is a person like a precious jewel. As it is said: Pure in discipline and proficient, possessing wisdom.
