Because the fruit produces suffering, because it is reproached by the vile, because it generates various kinds of distractions, and because it cannot distinguish the time of happiness. Therefore, the suffering of Avici hell and so on that arises from this also comes from non-virtue, and it is also because there are differences in suffering according to the differences of high, medium, and low. Therefore, by this, there is no distinction in times of happiness, and whatever form of experiencing suffering there is, that is what it is called. What are the differences between them? There are two kinds of misconduct. What are they? The ordinary is that which is completely devoid of virtue in all things. The heavy is that by which the accumulation of afflictions is done. What is meant by "heavy"? Parents are those who produce one's own body. The guru is the one who empowers and shows the instructions, the special guru. Killing them is an action of immediate retribution. Beating is a proximate action. Other than that, killing other beings, taking what is not given, and so on, are ordinary because they are the cause of suffering and are not sacred. The rest is easy to understand. Thus, having explained the afflictions with their distinctions, who is the individual who is the basis of afflictions? Abandoning the six perfections means not accepting or practicing the six perfections. The mind being extremely ignorant means not knowing the cause, the effect, and the suchness. Because afflictions arise from that which possesses this, this is the individual who is the basis of afflictions. What is the fruit of afflictions? Being extremely inclined towards the lower realms means delighting in the lower realms, and thereby obtaining the fruit of Avici hell and so on. Therefore, this shows the dharma of samsara, the cause, the means, and the fruit. The individual with the seeds of afflictions is the cause. Taking what is not given and so on are the means. Being born in the three lower realms is the fruit. Abandoning virtuous dharmas is considered karma. Thus, having shown that the mind, not having realized it, has become the dharma of samsara, now, in order to know that the mind is solitary, that is, nirvana, it is said, "The order of the appearance of self-nature," and so on. Self-nature is the self-nature of delusion. Being free from the self-nature of delusion is appearance, and order is

Having obtained the light, one is able to overcome. What will that become? A completely secluded mind is a mind that is free from conceptualization. Whatever mind is free from all afflictions is called that. What is the nature of a mind that is said to be secluded? Is it focused on virtue or non-virtue, or does it have such characteristics? It is not, because the correct actions of body, speech, and mind are the ten virtues, such as refraining from taking what is not given. One does not focus on these either, and is free from their characteristics. Then, does one discriminate against wrong actions? Wrong actions are the ten non-virtues, such as taking what is not given and killing, etc. The mind does not discriminate against these. Why? The meaning of "because" is that the mind is completely secluded, and does not discriminate between virtue and non-virtue. What is the reason for that? The answer to this is that the nature of virtue and non-virtue is its characteristic. Where does it come from? It comes from the three lights, namely light and the increase of light, and the three lights obtained from light. How does it arise by relying on what power? Relying on the power of the wind's riding, that is, consciousness rides the wind, and arises together with the wind. How long does it take to arise? In an instant, that is, in the interval of closing the eyes, etc. What does it do after it arises? Then, it experiences various objects, that is, it focuses on form, etc., and experiences feelings. Where does it go from there? It enters the light again and again, that is, the light is naturally pure at all times. This shows the light of the nature of consciousness. Having understood in this way, by relying on the three lights of the path, one will be able to obtain the light that is free from defilements. Therefore, having a virtuous basis indicates the cause. The light of the path indicates the method. The upper light and the light indicate the result. The nature and the Dharma of Samsara indicate the contradictory qualities that should be abandoned here. How is that known? It is known from the unsurpassed intention. Like this, it is said, etc., meaning that, as it is said here, it is declared from the unsurpassed intention. Just as clouds are diverse, this is said from the perspective of time and difference.
