It is for this reason. The so-called wind refers to the one with the characteristics mentioned earlier. The wheel of Dharma, in terms of its fundamental divisions, has nine aspects. For that very reason. Starting from midnight. It is said. It means the end of the four hours mentioned in the scriptures. Relative to worldly people, a 'thun' (a unit of time) is the length of eight finger-widths. The so-called six wheels refer to the fact that, excluding the pervasive wind, with the nature of the number nine times nine, during the day, the six wheels occur fifty-four times. The same is true at night, occurring one hundred and eight times. The so-called nature of nine refers to the nature of nine times nine. The so-called end of midnight refers to the end of the length of four finger-widths. The winds also rise. This refers to the number of one hundred and eight. Having thus shown the nature of the place, in order to show the connection with the meaning being explained, it is said: That itself is the division of the place. That itself refers to the numbers of one hundred and eight mentioned earlier. The so-called division of the place refers to the characteristic of manifestly tending to grasp objects. The so-called going to various thoughts refers to the fact that, in a state of complete ignorance, it transforms into the number of afflictions by its very nature. Having thus shown the self-nature of the three aspects, in order to state the names of the natures, it is said: Those names are to be explained. Those refer to those thoughts. Separating means expanding with the division of three aspects. Names refer to what has become terminology, and 'to be explained' means making a vow. Having thus explained the vow to explain, in order to state the self-nature, it is said: Attachment, hatred, and so on. Desire in the mind for an object not heard of is attachment. A mind without loving-kindness is hatred. The nature of the reality that abides as it is, the nature of the mind that is devoid of knowing, is delusion. The so-called pride refers to the nature of arrogance that arises in the mind from seeing an object. The so-called ego refers to the ego that thinks 'I have obtained it' for a special thought that has not been obtained. The so-called clinging refers to
