By relying on the oral instructions passed down without loss from one to another, one can accomplish Suchness. This is what the compilers, the bodhisattvas, said. The necessity of the words "Thus have I heard," etc., should be understood by the wise. It is the very life and effort previously mentioned. Ah! In order to remember that it is the cause of samsara and nirvana, the teacher said this: As it is said, "All dharmas arise from causes," etc. The term "dharmas" refers to the characteristics of the aggregates, elements, and sense bases, the nature of self and appearance, which are mind and mental factors. "Arising from causes" means arising from interdependence. That cause refers to the primary cause, which is the subtle element. As it is said: "Wind is a subtle form, and when mixed with... it arises from the sense gates and focuses on objects. When it is endowed with appearance, it becomes like wind. At that time, how can all those natures, the bodiless ones, be destroyed?" Thus it is said. "Spoken by the Tathagata" means taught by the all-knowing one. "Whatever is the cessation of those, that too is spoken," this is adding the remaining words. The cessation of those dharmas is the ultimate truth, which is luminosity. That is, the meaning of separately teaching the three—self-nature, appearance, and emptiness—as completely pure for the sake of liberation. As it is said: "What is the complete purity of the three emptinesses? That is explained as luminosity. The three wisdoms are completely pure, and are taught in the place of all emptiness. From the purification of wisdom, that is it, the unsurpassed all-knowing one. Without appearance and without change, non-dual, supremely peaceful. That is neither existent nor non-existent, transcending the realm of the pure. Therefore, from the pure luminosity, the three wisdoms will arise. Bearing the thirty-two marks and perfectly endowed with the eighty minor marks. Completely endowed with all aspects, the all-knowing one arises from that." Thus it is said. The great renunciate said this. The term "this said" refers to the meaning of the verses on dependent origination spoken by the Tathagata. Because it is to be spoken, it is said "thus." Ah!

It is said thus. What is that? The term "Great Virtuous One" is mentioned, and the compiler is the noble virtuous one, Ananda. Who spoke those words? It was Shariputra and Vajrapani from the Vajrayana. That is to separately show to those with extremely pure minds that samsara and nirvana are without difference. It is said, "Samsara is pure by its very nature," and so on. Among them, there are three types of samsara: the samsara of birth, the samsara of death, and the samsara in between. These are pure in their essence, because they are pervaded by ultimate truth. Among them, the samsara of death is characterized by entering clear light, it is the Dharmakaya, because it represents the aggregates and so on. The intermediate state of samsara is like a rainbow, it is the Sambhogakaya, because it is first born from clear light. The samsara of birth is the characteristic of the Nirmanakaya, because it performs the benefit of beings. As it is said: As the outer, so is the inner. How is that to be known? It is said, "By nature, it is free from existence." What is called nature is the self-image of all dharmas. Therefore, to make existence free from existence means that even the name of existence does not exist. In essence, because it is not a dharma-holder there, the nature of dharma should also be known as having the end of many words. How is it that samsara itself is no different from nirvana? It is also said in Hevajra: For those who are pure and have a mind, samsara itself is nirvana. And so on, it is said. In the Fifth Sequence, it is also said: By whatever mind deeds are done, one becomes bound in samsara, by that same mind, the yogi goes to the place of the Sugata. It is said. Furthermore, in the Garland of Light, it is also said: The one who ends the three existences spoke of existence, in short, it is only the mind's thought. Abiding in the heart ༄། If those are abandoned, one will be liberated from the bonds that connect to rebirth. This was said by the feet of Acharya Chandrakirti. Therefore, the light of self-awareness

Clarity is completely pure by its very nature. Having recognized that these beings have the nature of the Buddha, in order to show that yogis should not generate the thought of being far away in the realm of liberation, it is said: For the nature that arises in the present, one should abandon the thought of being far away. What arises in the present is abiding as it is; the past and the future are not. Such a nature, that which has suchness, is called that. Or, since it arises and abides in each moment, it is the nature of what arises in the present. It does not change in all times and is the ultimate truth, which is the Dharmadhatu. For that, one should abandon the thought of being far away, that is, one should not think that by realizing this suchness, one will attain enlightenment in three countless eons, one should not have the thought of being far away. In the Garland of Light it is also said: Yogis, with wisdom, attain liberation, do not have the thought of being far away. Even if emptiness is observed with discrimination, one is naturally liberated. This was said by the master Lavapa. In the work called Secret Lamp, the compiler, from the thread of the lineage of the stages of manifesting enlightenment, opened the words that reveal the secret, which is the lamp, it is complete, thus combining the words. After that, the abbot, the master himself, said: For the eighty-four thousand heaps of Dharma and so on, these four lamps have been briefly summarized and symbolized, thus combining the words. In order to remember the instructions, the master symbolized them, but did not explain them in detail. The intention is that for those who are sharp-witted, they will follow and understand the lineage of my disciples, but for those who are of low intelligence and separated from the lineage of the master's instructions, for those renunciates, in order to keep it secret from them, the master did not explain in detail or comment. Because relying only on commentary, with explanations without realization, those who have fallen themselves will also show others the inverted path, causing them to fall, so the master only briefly summarized and symbolized these four lamps, that is the intention.
