The nature of what is to be symbolized is attained through the path of the Guru, so it is said. Having explained the nature of the means, the nature of what is to be cultivated is: 'That which gives rise to common accomplishments.' From 'That which gives rise to common accomplishments' onwards, one verse succinctly explains the cultivated meditation, recitation, mantra, and mudra. As the teacher Nagarjuna said: 'If one has found the elephant, why search for the elephant's footprints?' So it is said. Then, what does it symbolize? 'With the union of the self-desired deity, with the ultimate state of Buddhahood, having made the nature of what is to be symbolized real.' This means that in the generation stage, one meditates on the self-desired deity, and in the completion stage, one actually symbolizes with the self-desired deity's mudra, realizing the nature of samsara and nirvana, which is the ultimate state of Buddhahood, and the three realms will also be realized as being like space. By what is this meditated upon? By focusing on the excellent wise one himself. By making self-awareness manifest and familiarizing oneself with it day and night. Having thus explained the nature of meditation free from fabrication, now the nature of the place will be explained, starting from 'The mountaintop and the place of pacification,' up to 'The place is adorned by one who knows mantras.' Having shown the nature of the place, what should one meditate upon there? 'One should meditate with bliss.' This is said, one should meditate with the bliss of contaminated pleasures, such as joy and supreme joy. What is the means for that bliss of emptiness? 'Without wisdom and means, Buddhahood will not be attained.' This means that without meditating on emptiness in the four mudras, one will not attain non-conceptual wisdom. Having thus explained meditation endowed with a place, now the conclusion is shown, saying 'Therefore, in this way, perfect enlightenment.' This means that perfect enlightenment as a result is not attained by emptiness alone or self-awareness alone without the manifest path of abandoning the four self-natured mudras and uniting equally with them. Having thus explained the means of gradually entering emptiness, now the third means of union will be explained: 'Because wisdom arises from this, it should be united with the four mudras.'

Thus, just as the moon waxes full, the bliss of insight arising from the bliss of calm abiding depends on the four mudra objects. Having thus indicated in brief with half a verse, now the characteristics of the mudras will be explained in detail: Ignorance is the samaya mudra. This means that the yogi who relies on Vairochana, generating a Brahmin caste girl as the Buddha's eye, entering into samadhi, from the nature of the three joys, sealed with the bliss-emptiness seal, this is the samaya mudra, that is, meditating on emptiness like a mirror. Hatred is always the great mudra. This means that the person who relies on the Vajra family, generating a Kshatriya caste girl as Mamaki, at the end of the co-emergent joy, sealed with the emptiness seal, this is the great mudra, that is, the dharmata of equality. Jealousy is the karma mudra. This means that the person who relies on the Karma family, generating a Vaishya caste girl as Tara, generating the co-emergent joy, at the end sealed with the bliss-emptiness seal, this is the karma mudra, that is, the dharmata of diligent action. Desire is the dharma mudra. This means that the person who relies on the Padma family, generating a Chandala caste girl as White-clad Woman, at the end of the three joys, sealed with the great bliss seal, this is the dharma mudra, that is, the dharmata of individual self-realization wisdom. Thus, in the "Namasamgiti" it is said: Great offering is great desire, making all sentient beings rejoice. And so on. The yogi perfects these mudras, therefore it will be taught. This means that in order to manifest calm abiding, perfecting great bliss, therefore the meaning of teaching the collection of causes of the four mudras. Both lineage and the two manifest, one should contemplate as the form of a deity. This means that after purifying through the four approaches and practices, practicing deity yoga, that is, generating initial faith, turning into a collection of merit. Pacified by delusion, strengthened by wrath. This means that meditating on the emptiness of delusion becomes peaceful, meditating on the dharmata of hatred becomes pure, meditating on the dharmata of desire generates great attachment.
