The wise one asks: 'Then, what is the measure for gauging it?' If [the practitioner] transfers to the third place, he is qualified to receive the teachings.' If someone asks: 'Then, must the treatise or scripture upon which one relies be free from faults such as self-contradiction?' The answer: 'Even if there are [faults], it is fine.' Please examine carefully with a pure mind, and do not disturb the Dharma! Disturbing the Dharma is not advisable. Because of the lack of the lamp of pure reason, are not those who merely guess and search for the meaning of scriptures in various things living the life of the blind? Furthermore, what is the correct basis for saying that the offering ground is yellow or black? If it is said that this is because the dimensions are described separately, then is this [description] stating the certainty of the dimensions? Or is it stating the certainty of the color? Or is it stating the certainty of the material? Because there are many situations, please carefully consider which situation it belongs to. Just as for a virtuous spiritual friend, there are occasions for teaching the Dharma, occasions for internal practice, occasions for eating meals, occasions for prostrations and circumambulation, and occasions for urination and defecation, and so on. Similarly, here, the occasion for explaining the material of the color is in the forty-second verse of the Kalachakra, which mentions 'vajra, etc.' and 'five jewels,' etc., with commentary. The certainty of the color is explained in the forty-third verse, such as 'the east is auspicious,' etc., with commentary. The certainty of the dimensions is explained in the fifty-first verse, such as 'black feet, etc.,' with commentary. Finally, circles are drawn at the beginning and end of the Vajra Garland, and the burning nature of the five lights is to be viewed on the outside of it, thereby completing the mandala.' Up to here, the certainty of color and the certainty of dimensions, etc., are complete. Immediately after that, it says, 'How to adorn the offerings.' Therefore, the difference between occasions of certainty and occasions of uncertainty must be understood. Saying that the offering ground has only one color is stating the certainty of the dimensions, not stating the certainty of the color, nor stating the certainty of the material. Therefore, for those who claim to be practitioners of the Kalachakra, it is very important not to confuse the various occasions and to explain the occasions as they are. If one cannot recognize the occasions and interprets incorrectly due to confusing the occasions...

Otherwise, it is not clarifying the doctrine, but destroying the doctrine. Furthermore, to those who believe that the ground for offerings should be a single color, such as yellow, black, or green, one should ask this: Is the color of the ground where the offering substances are placed the same as the color of the ground where the horses stand? If they are different, then a reason must be given. If they are the same, then even when constructing a mandala, the base of the offerings and the horses must be the same color, so at that time, will they also be made a single color such as yellow, black, or green? If so, then making the base of the speech-horse also a single color such as yellow, black, or green would be too extreme and would cause harm. In reality, the situation is this: When painting, if the ground beneath the horse's base is not covered by other cloth, then the color of the ground beneath the base will appear; if it is covered, then the color of the covering will appear. What is the covering? The white horse bases of body and speech are what cover the color of the ground beneath, appearing from the space between the horse bases of speech and mind. The lower two-thirds of the body-horse base is a colored base, and the lower part of the one-third at the top is not land or water, so the color of the base that appears in the gaps of what is blocked by the top of the horse base is the color of the base. Then, if one assumes that the bottom of the horse base is flipped over when painting, and asks what color is obtained from the gaps, saying that the color of the sky is obtained by assuming that the horse base is flipped upwards is also irrelevant, because it does not answer the question. Please think carefully, and for those who are proficient in very pure scriptures, reasoning, and oral instructions, and who possess the four reliances (relying on the Dharma, not the person; relying on the meaning, not the words; relying on wisdom, not consciousness; relying on the definitive meaning, not the provisional meaning), if possible, please ask them, and please cherish the precious Dharma. In detail, is the color of the cloth beneath the body, speech, and mind the same as the color beneath the Great Bliss Wheel (Sanskrit: Mahāsukha-cakra, Tibetan: བདེ་ཆེན་འཁོར་ལོ།)? If they are different, please explain the reason. If they are the same, then they will also be established as a single color such as yellow, black, or green. If so, then the color of the base will be impossible, and if one insists on this, then the vajra...
