Establishing the Two Truths with Colors Homage to the mandala gathered by the two truths! The ultimate truth mandala is free from drawing lines in the realm of space, free from applying colors, free from the mind that contemplates deities in the form of colors, hand gestures, and shapes. Please explain it as being like 'all aspects' (Sarva-ākāra). This and other extensive explanations are similar to the Phurba. Regarding the conventional mandala with colors, although it is said in other texts such as the Vajra Garland to be on the ground, in the great commentary on the glorious Kalachakra Tantra, it is said: 'The base of all cloths is covered everywhere with the colors of the directions, with colors.' Furthermore, in the forty-third verse of the Empowerment Chapter: 'In the east, it transforms into the land of glorious blackness, in the south, it is equal to the sun, and in the west as well, golden. In the north, it is different, white like the rabbit-bearer, by the distinctions of the faces of Vajradhara.' In the commentary on this, 'Now in the east,' etc., the colors of the colored ground are explained. Here, due to the signs of the owner and the faces, the ground of the mandala changes according to the directions, due to the black face, etc. Therefore, due to the complete purification of the mind, the east becomes the land of glorious blackness. Due to the complete purification of speech, the south is equal to the sun. Due to the complete purification of the face of wisdom, the west is golden, that is, yellow. Due to the complete purification of the face of the body, the north is also different, that is, white. Thus, by the distinctions of the faces of Vajradhara, colored powders should be applied in the directions. Between which should the distinctions be colored? In the eighty-first verse: 'The vajra of the glorious mind in the east is like dark clouds, the vajra of the body in the north, the vajra of speech in the south, and the vajra of wisdom in the west is in its own family direction. White, red, and yellow pervade the parts of the earth by the power of the family.' In the commentary on this, 'Now the completely pure seeds of the mandala are explained.' Here, due to the complete purification of wind in the east, the color of the mind vajra is black, pervading the part of the earth. Due to the purification of water in the north --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

在东方是白色身金刚(kU rdo rje dkar po),南方是红色语金刚(lhor me dag pas gsung rdo rje dmar po),西方是安住于自种姓方位的黄色智慧金刚(nub tu rang gi rigs sa'i phyogs su gnas pa ye shes rdo rje ste ser po'o)。

To the east is the white Body Vajra (kU rdo rje dkar po), to the south is the red Speech Vajra (lhor me dag pas gsung rdo rje dmar po), and to the west, abiding in the direction of its own lineage, is the yellow Wisdom Vajra (nub tu rang gi rigs sa'i phyogs su gnas pa ye shes rdo rje ste ser po'o). Similarly, Rahu, the Moon, the Sun, and the Fire of Time belong to the earth element by the division of the four faces. Thus, it is said that it is pervaded by the directional colors. Some say, 'The pervasion of directional colors refers to within the outer enclosure, beyond which there are no directional colors.' Because in the commentary on the Vajra Heart (rdo snying 'grel pa) it says, 'During the time of rainfall, similarly, the ground in the east is black, the south is red, the west is yellow, and the north is white, which is the ultimate end of the five lines.' Therefore, the directional colors of the Kalachakra Mandala (dus 'khor gyi dkyil 'khor) are only within the confines of the outer enclosure. If you say that, there is no pervasion. The reason is that the meaning of the three commentaries on the Mind of Shambhala (shAm bha la'i sems 'grel skor gsum) is the same, but there are many differences in the explicit meaning. The rainfall is also a case of explicit meaning. If the Kalachakra Mandala and so on are to be done as in the Vajra Heart Commentary, then many extreme consequences will fall like a large stone falling on the head, causing great harm. In that case, there are no doors and surroundings, so should the Kalachakra also have no doors and surroundings? Furthermore, in the Vajra Heart Commentary, the seed syllable (sa bon) of the Wisdom Vajra does not have ཧོཿ (Tibetan), ह (Sanskrit Devanagari), haḥ (Sanskrit Romanization), Ha, but instead uses ཨེ་ཝཾ་ (Tibetan), एवं (Sanskrit Devanagari), evaṃ (Sanskrit Romanization), Thus, should this also be done in the Kalachakra? Furthermore, in the Vajra Heart Commentary, the Body Vajra has sixteen hands, the Speech Vajra has six hands, the Mind Vajra has four hands, and the Wisdom Vajra has two hands, so should the four Vajras of Kalachakra also be done in this way? The posture, the hand implements, and whether there are doors or not, and so on, have many other differences, so many extreme consequences will fall like a great rain of thunderbolts.' Furthermore, in the commentary on the seventeenth verse of the Empowerment Chapter (dbang le'i tshigs bcad), it says, 'Similarly, on the ground of the east, south, west, and north outside the hearths and the mandala, the colored powders are applied according to the divisions of the Buddhas or the faces of the Bhagavan (bcom ldan 'das), as stated in the tantras. This is the necessity of applying colored powders.' Therefore, it is said that in the four directions outside the mandala, colored powders should also be applied according to the divisions of the Buddhas or the faces of the main deity.
