The virtuous causes of the ten pāramitās gradually increase and expand the ten bhūmis, which is a type of growth. Therefore, just as the waxing moon increases, the dharmadhātu gradually expands as the obscurations decrease. The reason for making it a type of growth is: Giving various kinds of difficult austerities (such as giving the body), keeping the precepts (bodhisattva precepts, i.e., precepts to abandon non-virtuous deeds) and the precepts of benefiting sentient beings (and the precepts of accumulating virtuous dharmas), and patience that benefits sentient beings. These three (pāramitās) cause the dhātu (of the nature of dharmadhātu) to (increase and expand). Diligence in all dharmas, entering samādhi with the mind, and constantly maintaining wisdom. These three (pāramitās) are also the cause of increasing bodhi (nature). Wisdom with skillful means, pure aspiration, and wisdom that abides in strength. These four dharmas (pāramitās) cause the dhātu (of dharmadhātu) to (gradually) increase. (Therefore, if someone) says 'Do not pay homage to the bodhisattva who increases the bodhi nature,' that is evil speech. Without the appearance of a bodhisattva, the dharmakāya (of the Buddha) will not appear (pure and undefiled). (For example,) if someone hates the seed of sugarcane, (he will not get the fruit of sugarcane). If someone wants to enjoy sugar, but does not have the seed of sugarcane, sugar will not appear. If the seed of sugarcane is protected and cultivated in a suitable land, sugarcane or sugar will (increase and expand). Similarly, if the bodhicitta is protected and cultivated in a suitable environment, (śrāvaka) arhats, (pratyekabuddha) solitary realizers, and (perfect) Buddhas (the ultimate fruit of the three vehicles) will arise from it (pure and undefiled). (Like following the Buddha from the beginning of the effort, for example,) just as farmers protect the seeds of rice. Similarly, for those who believe in the Mahāyāna (Mahāyāna path), the guides also protect. (In the stage of faith and practice, slightly seeing the dharmadhātu, for example,) just as the moon appears slightly on the fourteenth of the dark moon. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Likewise, for those who believe in the Mahayana, they can also see a little of (their own) Buddha-body. (This is a metaphor for the gradual growth of the Dharmakaya seed from the moment of entering the bhumi.) Just like the crescent moon, one can see it growing little by little. Similarly, those who have entered the bhumis can also see the (Dharmakaya seed) gradually growing. Just as on the fifteenth day of the waxing moon, the moon becomes full (the Bodhicitta manifests), Similarly, when reaching the end of the bhumis, the Dharmakaya also becomes complete and clear. (Therefore, in the stage of faith and practice) towards the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, with constant and firm faith, correctly generate the (Bodhi)citta, and (towards Bodhi) generate the thought of non-retrogression (in this state). Completely abandon the black (non-virtuous) base, and fully embrace the white (virtuous) base. (Having attained the first bhumi) At that time, one can definitely realize (the Dharmadhatu), (the name of the first bhumi) is called Joyful Bhumi. (The nature of the mind of the Dharmadhatu) Previously, it was always stained by various defilements such as attachment (state). (In the second bhumi) Because it is without defilement, it is completely pure, (the name of the second bhumi) is called Stainless Bhumi. (In the third bhumi) The nets of afflictions are completely stopped, and the stainless wisdom is completely bright. Because it can eliminate the immeasurable (ignorance) darkness, (the name of the third bhumi) is Illuminating Bhumi. (In the fourth bhumi) It is always illuminated by the pure light, away from the hustle and bustle. Surrounded by the light of wisdom, (the fourth bhumi) is called Blazing Wisdom Bhumi. (In the fifth bhumi) Proficient in all knowledge, arts, and crafts. And various meditations, from the extremely difficult to subdue afflictions, completely victorious, (the name of the fifth bhumi) is Difficult to Subdue Bhumi. (In the sixth bhumi) Related to the three Bodhis, and gathers all perfections. For the cessation of birth and death, (the sixth bhumi) is called Manifest Bhumi. (In the seventh bhumi) In all the adornments of the wheel, playing with the net of light. And transcending the mire of the ocean of samsara, (the seventh bhumi) is called Far-Reaching Bhumi. (In the eighth bhumi) The Buddha firmly holds him, and enters the ocean of wisdom. Effortlessly and naturally accomplished, therefore, not shaken by the retinue of Mara, (the name of the eighth bhumi) is Immovable Bhumi. (In the ninth bhumi) For all the respective correct knowledge, the rich language of teaching the Dharma. Yogi --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
