It is not seen due to the control of the object, such as dreams and the intermediate state, where the object is shown by consciousness. Being the object of the senses is also not a valid means of knowledge. As it is said in the *Bodhicharyavatara*: "Even direct perception of forms, etc., is due to convention, not a valid means of knowledge." And as it is said in the *Tantra of the Great Expansion of Space*: "Whatever becomes the object of the senses, those are not valid means of knowledge." And: "In the ultimate sense, there is no reality; eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, mind, etc., the senses do not see; what is seen is deceived by the mind." And as it is said in the *Guhyasamaja Tantra*: "Form is not apprehended by the eye, sound is not apprehended by the hearer, the tongue does not perceive taste, nor is smell by the nose, touch is not the hollow of the body." Thus, all of this appears due to the power of the habitual tendencies in the mind from beginningless time, from the awakening of these tendencies. It is not seen due to the power of the connection between the external object and the sense consciousness. If that were the case, since the essence is one and there is no connection of arising from it, it would not be seen. That is also as Naropa said: "These phenomena of appearance and existence, are not separate from one's own knowing mind, because they appear and are clear, like the experience of self-awareness. If it were not the mind, then since there is no connection, it would follow that it would not appear. Thus, establish the conventional truth." However, if one thinks that this external appearance has existed from the beginning, and no matter how much one practices the habitual tendencies, it is impossible for it to become so solid, and it should not be one's own mind that appears in common, then how do you know that it has existed from the beginning? From the words of the old man? Can you realize that a dream is newly created during the dream? Just as dreams also appear in common to the old man in the dream and to all people, but it is not so. By practicing habitual tendencies for a long time, it is possible for it to appear like this. As it is said in the *Manjushri Play Tantra*, the son of the gods, playing, said to Manjushri: "Manjushri, how should these external objects be viewed?" Manjushri said: "These external objects appear due to the power of the increase of the habitual tendencies of mental discrimination." The son of the gods said: "No matter how one views the habitual tendencies, how can they appear so solid?" Manjushri said: "It is possible for them to appear like that. For example, in the city of Varanasi, there was a Brahmin."
