Through pursuing external objects, bind appearances as mind, and the state of unattached and nameless.

The habits of unobstructed samsara, the meaning of external objects are fully examined. If it is not real, the nature of mind itself appears as the meaning of external objects. It is also established by reason that it is dominated by the mind, and the appearance itself is established by the reason of uncertainty. What exists appears as non-existent, what does not exist appears as existent, one appears as many, and many appear as one. This is also true, because what exists does not see the meaning of Dharma-nature, and what does not exist grasps me as self-grasping. As it is said: Whoever does not see what exists but sees what does not exist, what is this darkness like? So it is said. Also, the pretas do not see the sun that exists warmly, but see the cold sun that does not exist. Like the darkness that does not exist in appearance, the owl sees it in appearance. One appears as many, such as the god-given seeing many enemies and relatives, and the appearance of each element is different. Earth is perceived as earth, space and place are perceived as place, and the six realms see differently in water. The non-existent is perceived as place, food, burning, bathing, and space is also perceived as place, foundation, etc. Due to the difference of mind, the appearance is different, so it is uncertain in one realm, and in dreams, one's own mind appears as many places, bodies, friends, and sensual pleasures. Unobstructed said: Pretas, animals, humans, and gods, how do they follow their categories? Because one thing has different minds, it is desired that the meaning is not accomplished. So it is said. It is also uncertain that many appear as one, because the aggregation of dust appears as a mountain, and the aggregation of limbs appears as a body. As it is said in the Sixty Verses: If there is no combination of dust, how can that body exist? As it is said in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: Likewise, without a body, hands, etc., the ignorant also grasp the body as mind. If it is explained by the oral instruction, it is also established. In this way, the body and sensual pleasures in the dream are not accomplished by others, but they also appear as true and established. The current appearance also appears as true, but it is not true. In the Samadhiraja Sutra it says: People are in their own homes like dreams, and they are also happy and drunk with the merits of sensual pleasures, but after waking up, they have never been greedy, knowing it is a dream.

He knows it. Likewise, he knows the types and distinctions of what is seen and heard. All of these are untrue, like dreams. Thus it is said. However, if you think that dreams are false, so they are different from daytime appearances, then there is no difference in terms of long or short duration, many or few in number. Today we know that dreams are false, but at the time we do not know it. And now, although we perceive this appearance as true, just as when the guru teaches with pith instructions, we know it to be false. Sometimes, even in sleep, we know that dreams are false. However, if you think that daytime appearances are permanently constant, while dreams are impermanent every night, so they are different, then the daytime appearances, the external weather, the internal time of a day, walking, sitting, eating, sleeping, dwelling, companions, and the secret thoughts of the mind, whatever it may be, if we do not even slightly turn our attention to the impermanent nature of things, they appear to be true. The outer four elements, the inner self, the secret mind, attachment, hatred, hope, and fear are all similar. There is not even a hair's breadth of difference, so why cling to the daytime? In reality, there is no truth or falsehood in what appears to be stable or unstable. It is like there being no truth or falsehood in illusion due to long or short duration. Originally, grasping at something as true makes it appear true, and grasping at something as untrue makes it appear untrue. As a sign that there is no truth or falsehood in the nature of phenomena themselves, there are stories of falling off a cliff in a dream or crossing water without being harmed. Yogis, because they are accustomed to seeing appearances as unreal, can pass through mountains and rocks without obstruction. However, due to the power of the delusion of beings, they make distinctions between what is stable and true, and what is unstable and untrue, but there is no difference at all. In the "Treasury of Logic on Valid Cognition," it says: "In reality, appearances are mind itself; there is nothing external. On the basis of stable and unstable habitual patterns, we make distinctions between truth and falsehood." Thus it is said. Similarly, there is no true establishment whatsoever in the appearances of the intermediate state and the future realms. Shantideva said: "Who made the iron ground burning hot? From where did those masses of fire arise?" Thus it is said. However, if someone thinks that the object exists and is directly perceived by the senses, who would think it is madness? But it is not true. When the eye looks at form, the eye does not go out, and the form does not come in, so there is no meeting. If one can see without meeting, then if all knowable things in all directions could be seen and known directly by the senses, then that also cannot be seen. If they meet, they cannot be seen, because they would become one.
