With the great confidence of knowing that there is no need to engage in the act of liberation by entrusting oneself to the great continuum of such co-emergent great liberation, when the outer appearances and inner awareness meet and arise, by knowing that it is without basis, one does not engage in judgment or grasping of anything, and by abiding in the state of self-awakening, one abides in the state of recognizing the arising of pristine awareness, as it says in the *Thal 'Gyur*: "The ultimate of the Great Perfection of self-nature, is that all phenomena are left in their own place; because appearance and awareness, dharmata, are united, co-emergent liberation is encountered in the state of just resting. The intention transcends the mind, and the signs are purified in their own place; the extremes of emptiness and entity are liberated, and the movement ceases, without thought; the mind ceases, transcending the intellect." And as it says in the *String of Pearls*: "Because the five elements are primordially pure, appearances are liberated as clear light; because the five faculties are left just as they are, the five objects of grasping are liberated in their own place." And as it says in the *Kunsel*: "The conduct of self-cognizant wisdom is like a precious mirror; the nature of wisdom is unimpeded, and self-appearance and self-arising are practiced without attachment or aversion." And as it says in the *Great Garuda*: "The basis of signs being primordially pure and completely liberated, effortlessly and without activity, removes the obstacles of the mind; the meeting of the three encounters is the obstruction to enjoying objects; whatever arises, without distraction, binds the object and mind together." Thus, this great co-emergent liberation is merely the confidence of realizing the way the basis, entity, and nature abide, just as they are; it is taught that it does not depend on engaging in the act of liberation through view and meditation. Secondly, regarding the conduct of generating confidence in the great self-abiding of the great path of self-liberation, which is without antidote, there are two parts: generally explaining the meaning of the great self-liberation, and extensively explaining its intention. First, in general, from the common vehicle and the outer and inner tantras, etc., abandoning afflictions, subduing with antidotes, letting go of purification and transformation into self-pacification, or abiding in one's own nature, becoming dharmata, if one does not know that these afflictions are pure from the beginning, never having existed, then one cannot abandon them by abandoning them; if one abandons them with the mind, then the object to be abandoned and the antidote are the same substance, which is not permissible; if one abandons them with wisdom, then the object to be abandoned and the antidote cannot meet, which is not appropriate; the earlier and later minds contradict each other in time, so one cannot abandon them; they would simultaneously mix in one continuum, which is not permissible; and also, the mind arises like the body and shadow from that, so there is no time of abandonment, etc. Therefore, like a drawing in water, self-liberation of one's own.

One should know that this is the key point. As it is also said in the "Union of Sun and Moon Sutra": Alas! Listen, Great Sage! These words that I have taught are: In the minds of all sentient beings, The collection of afflictions is present. These bind them to samsara, Obscuring the great bliss itself. These are not to be abandoned. If one does not realize it as it is, Like the yogi's body and shadow, Ignorance and wisdom arise together. Since it becomes itself from that, Abandoning is not true abandonment. Likewise, purifying that basis, Like polishing glass does not purify whiteness, The object of purification and the agent of purification are not different. Just as the color of turquoise does not change, Transforming also does not change the mind of the mind. Not realizing the unchanging essence, Like a crystal rock or a turquoise stone, One cannot purify and pacify. By its nature, it abides as it is, The one with yoga should examine. Likewise, likewise, letting it subside on its own is not pacification, because the one who lets go is not other than conceptualization. Without knowing manifest superior seeing, Like Mount Meru, king of mountains, No one can destroy it. It is not liberated by antidotes, like stirring muddy water with a stick when wanting it to be clear, applying antidotes is the same. Without knowing self-purification without seeking, Like wanting muddy water to clear, It does not clear by further and further means. That itself is not the nature of phenomena. Without knowing spontaneous manifestation, Like the appearance of an ordinary fool, one cannot transcend samsara. Manifest clinging is not reversed. Thus it is said. Thus, regarding the key to liberation in its own place, from the two stages of wisdom, through the path of Tögal, which is self-liberation with effort, the three keys, the expanse of the Dharmata wheel, and the vision of Bindu wisdom, burst forth manifestly. Because pure appearance arises like an aura, afflictions and co-emergent phenomena are self-liberated from impure appearance. Through effortless Trekchö, whatever thoughts arise cannot be sustained and are self-liberated, because this is the nature of phenomena. It is not necessary to liberate through other means, but liberation occurs spontaneously by its own nature. For example, like destroying poison with poison, afflictions themselves are liberated by themselves, therefore it is called self-liberation. Furthermore, in the "Union of Sun and Moon Sutra" it says: Alas! Listen also, Sage! These are the two stages of wisdom, The aspect of effort and the aspect of effortlessness. Thus it is said. And here, Trekchö
