Therefore, for this Dharma discourse, the zealous Bodhisattva Mahasattva strives to make all sentient beings truly rejoice, to make them truly uphold it, and to make them truly receive praise. This is the fourth meaning of understanding. Shariputra, if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva possesses these four qualities, they will obtain this dharani. Then, the Blessed One spoke these verses at that time: These eight letters should be contemplated. This sutra should be written and upheld. Twice a month, it should be constantly recited. Also, sentient beings should be made to uphold it. Approaching Bodhi, wisdom is also vast. In the ten directions, wherever Buddhas reside, all those who dwell there, he will see them in front of him. Therefore, generate desire and learn this. Shariputra, these four are the benefits of a zealous Bodhisattva Mahasattva for this dharani. What are the four? Like this: all the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones of the ten directions, remember him, the deeds of Mara will not occur to him, his karmic obscurations will be quickly purified, and eloquence will be quickly obtained without interruption. Shariputra, these four are the benefits of a zealous Bodhisattva Mahasattva for this dharani. Then, the Blessed One spoke these verses at that time: All the Buddhas remember him, Mara will not find his fault, his karmic obscurations will be quickly purified, and endless eloquence will also be obtained. Shariputra, in the past, in countless kalpas before countless kalpas, vast and extensive, immeasurable and incalculable, at that time, at that time, there was a Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha, named Like a Jewel Splendor King, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Sugata, Knower of the World, Tamer of Beings, Unsurpassed, Teacher of Gods and Humans, Buddha, Blessed One, appeared in the world. Shariputra, the Blessed One, the Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha

At the time when the Tathagata, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha, like the King of Glory of the Jewel Light of Perfection, was passing into complete Nirvana, there arose a Chakravartin king named Snavadhzin (Holder of Light), who possessed the seven precious human powers. He had a son named Yonten Rinchen Samgyis Mikhyabpai Pal (Inconceivable Glory of Precious Qualities). When he was sixteen years old, he heard this category of Dharma of the Dharani accomplished by endless doors from the Bhagavan Tathagata, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha, like the King of Glory of the Jewel Light of Perfection. As soon as he heard this Dharani, he strived to obtain it. For seventy thousand years, he did not doze or sleep. He did not become weary. He never delighted in kingship, wealth, or self. For seventy thousand years, he never relaxed or gave up his efforts, but steadfastly remained in correct inner meditation. He heard the Dharma taught by ninety kotis of Buddhas, and having heard it, he also practiced it. He retained everything. Having practiced the Dharani, he also renounced the world under the Bhagavan Tathagata, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha, like the King of Glory of the Jewel Light of Perfection himself. After he renounced the world, and after ninety thousand years had passed, he accomplished this Dharani accomplished by endless doors. Having accomplished it, he also widely and correctly explained it to sentient beings. In that one lifetime, he caused eighty kotis of hundreds of thousands of countless sentient beings to correctly grasp the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and he placed them on the irreversible ground. Shariputra, in that assembly, there was a merchant's son named Zlavi Tok (Moon Crest). He heard this category of Dharma of the Dharani accomplished by endless doors from that Dharma-speaking Bhikshu. Having heard it, he also rejoiced. From the root of virtue that arose from the moment he rejoiced, he heard the Dharma taught by ninety kotis of Buddhas, and having heard it, he also practiced it. He retained everything. In all respects, he was the best of those who had obtained Dharani, and he was a master of language and a holder of Dharani words.

is the supreme of those who possess it, and the supreme of the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas who are constantly diligent. He pleased those Tathagata-Arhat-Sammyaksambuddhas for three kalpas. Having pleased them, after three kalpas had passed, he attained complete enlightenment in unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment. Shariputra, do you think that the merchant's son named Moon Crown in that time and at that time was someone else? Shariputra, you should not think like that. Why is that? World Honored One, at that time, the Tathagata-Arhat-Sammyaksambuddha Dipamkara, at that time, he was the merchant's son named Moon Crown. Shariputra, do you think that the Dharma speaker named Inconceivable Glory of Jewel of Merit in that time and at that time was someone else? Shariputra, you should not think like that. Why is that? World Honored One, at that time, the Tathagata-Arhat-Sammyaksambuddha Amitayus, at that time, he was the Bhikshu Dharma speaker named Inconceivable Glory of Jewel of Merit. Shariputra, I and the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas of this Fortunate Aeon also heard this Dharani Dharma teaching at that time. Having heard it, we rejoiced. The root of virtue born from the moment of rejoicing caused me to turn back four trillion hundred thousand kalpas of samsara. I also heard the Dharma taught by ninety-nine billion Buddhas, and in all places I was the supreme of those who obtained Dharani, the supreme of those who possessed dignified speech and the ability to retain sentences, and the supreme of the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas who were constantly diligent. Shariputra, therefore, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who wishes to quickly attain unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment should even strive to rejoice in this Dharani Dharma teaching. Why is that?
