Mind. Furthermore, venerable Sharadvatiputra, this that makes manifest is not manifest to me, is not manifest to another, is not manifest to both. However, there is that which is designated as making manifest. Therefore, that which makes manifest is empty of the nature of making manifest. I am empty of myself, and another is also empty of the nature of another, and both are also empty of the nature of both, because it is an unreal imputed. This word of two letters called "What is this?" is empty of the nature of words, and letters are not letters either. Thus, one understands the meaning of dependent arising. When that meaning is spoken, it does not come from anywhere, nor does it go anywhere, but because it relies on the power of others, there is also that which is designated as letters. Because it is completely imputed, imputation is also empty. Because it is dependent arising, the power of others itself is empty. Because it arises from causes and conditions, dependent arising is also empty. Because it is suddenly produced by causes and conditions, arising is also empty of the nature of arising. Therefore, dependent arising is empty of its own characteristic. Whatever is empty of its own characteristic is without characteristic. Whatever is without characteristic is suchness. Whatever is suchness is non-erroneous suchness. Whatever is non-erroneous suchness is non-other suchness. Whatever is non-other suchness is samadhi. Whatever is samadhi is realization. Whatever is realization is emptiness. Whatever is emptiness is vipashyana. Whatever is vipashyana is shamatha. Whatever is shamatha is liberation. Whatever is liberation is the Middle Way. Whatever is the Middle Way has no one extreme, no two extremes, no object of grasping, no grasper, no grasping, no annihilation, no permanence, no arising, no cessation, no conception, no discrimination, no independence, no dependence on others, no going, no coming, no affliction, no complete purification, no gathering, no separation, that is vipashyana. Whatever is vipashyana

That has no aggregates, no elements, no faculties, no sense-fields, no objects, no designation as objects, no action, and no fruit of action. Where there is no action and no fruit of action, that is unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment. What is unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment is unsurpassed perfect complete Buddhahood. What is unsurpassed perfect complete Buddhahood is the Dharma. What is the Dharma is unborn and undying. What is unborn and undying should be understood as being equal to space. The venerable Sharadvatiputra said: Son of good family, this teaching on samadhi that you have explained is extremely profound, because even the sphere of activity of all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas is not in it, let alone worldly heretics and all opponents. This category of Dharma is difficult for all those who have not generated roots of virtue and have little faith to understand. Otherwise, it is only the realm of the Tathagata's eye. And the Tathagata's eye is without object and without abode. Having said this, the lord of secrets, Vajrapani, said to the venerable Sharadvatiputra: Venerable Sharadvatiputra, what is called Tathagata is the nature of Suchness. What is the nature of Suchness is emptiness. Where there is emptiness, there is no Tathagata. There is no nature of the Tathagata. Sharadvatiputra said: Son of good family, if the Tathagata has no nature, then how can it be said that he possesses the thirty-two marks of a great being and is called Tathagata, and that his body is well adorned with the eighty minor marks? How are the three bodies of the Tathagata established? How is it seen that the Tathagata attains unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment? The lord of secrets, Vajrapani, said: Venerable Sharadvatiputra, what is called the thirty-two marks of a great being is merely a conventional expression. What is called adornment is a display of

Words and sounds. That which is called "Excellent Marks" is characterized by the nature of illusion and dreams. That which is called "Perfect and Complete Enlightenment" is characterized by the nature of space. That which is called "Establishment of the Three Bodies" is characterized by the manifestation of the two accumulations. Oh, son of the venerable Sharadvati, this is also the secret realm of the body of the Tathagata, wherein that which is called "Secret of the Body" is characterized by the corresponding cause of great merit. What is the corresponding cause of merit? It is the complete enjoyment body of the Tathagata, and this is also the activity and secret of the body of the Tathagata. Oh, son of the venerable Sharadvati, that which is called "Speech" is characterized by the two, conventional and ultimate. What is the characteristic of the two, conventional and ultimate? It is the emanation body of the Tathagata. Dependent arising, Without cessation, and entering without permanence, understanding entering through the aspect of consciousness, to be known through familiarizing oneself with meditation, that is, without object, without all afflictions, and empty with purity, not the realm of the body, not the object of speech, not the object of the mind's own nature, that is the Dharmakaya of the Tathagata, truly gathered in the realm of space. The establishment of the three bodies of the Tathagata should be viewed in this way. Oh, son of the venerable Sharadvati, furthermore, what is the secret of the body of the Tathagata? It is the Dharmakaya. What is the Dharmakaya? It is to be viewed as the Middle Way of all phenomena. What is the Middle Way? It is neither birth nor death, whether the Tathagatas appear or do not appear, this Dharmakaya is indeed the nature of abiding. Oh, son of the venerable Sharadvati, that which is called "Corresponding Cause of Merit" belongs to the category of perfections. Among them, that which is called "Perfection" should also be regarded as the corresponding cause of merit. Why is that? Oh, son of the venerable Sharadvati, that which is called "Perfection of Giving" is the complete giving away of both internal and external things. Among them, that which is called "External" is a conventional term.
