I shall also cause the Tathagata to disappear. Ajatashatru said: The Tathagata possesses the power of great神通(藏文:རྫུ་འཕྲུལ་,梵文天城体:ऋद्धि,梵文罗马拟音:riddhi,汉语字面意思:神通), and if he knows the thoughts in others' minds, how can you cause him to disappear? The Tathagata also has great attendants such as Shariputra, the great Maudgalyayana, Nabhun, and Aniruddha, so it is not possible. Devadatta said to King Ajatashatru: Great King, be my friend. The king said: What do you intend to do? Devadatta said: The Great King should proclaim throughout the country: No one should give robes, food, drink, or alms to the monks. Thereafter, King Ajatashatru also proclaimed: Whoever gives robes, food, or alms to the monks shall have their hands and feet cut off. At that time, the Blessed One, together with a great assembly of monks, went to beg for alms from Vulture Peak Mountain, but obtained nothing. Likewise, from one day to seven days, they obtained nothing, so great disciples such as Shariputra went to other lands by means of their miraculous power to beg for robes, food, and alms. At that time, Devadatta said to King Ajatashatru: Now, there is not even one great disciple of the Buddha, only the Tathagata remains, so the king should invite the Tathagata. If he comes to the palace, we shall intoxicate five hundred black, ferocious woolly elephants with wine and make them extremely drunk, and then invite the Buddha. After he comes into the palace, we shall have those maddened, drunken woolly elephants trample and kill him. Thereafter, King Ajatashatru sent someone to invite the Tathagata, and the Buddha and five hundred Arhats, having accepted the king's invitation, went to Rajagriha (present-day Rajgir, Bihar, India). Then, King Ajatashatru released five hundred maddened, drunken woolly elephants, and those maddened elephants broke trees, tore down fences, knocked down walls, and emitted a great roaring sound, rushing towards the Tathagata and the five hundred Arhats.

He jumped to that side. Then five hundred Arhats were terrified and ascended to the sky above, staying in the sky above the Buddha. At that time, only Ananda remained with the Tathagata, not separated from him. At that time, the Tathagata, with the power of loving-kindness and compassion, raised his right arm and transformed his five fingers into a lion that opened its mouth and roared loudly, causing five hundred wild elephants to fall to the ground in terror. Then, the Tathagata, surrounded by many attendants, went to the king's palace, and King Ajatasatru came out to greet the Tathagata and invited him to sit on the seat. After sitting on the seat, he confessed and repented of his sins, and said to the Buddha: "World Honored One, this was not done by me, but Devadatta made me do it." The World Honored One said: "I know that Devadatta always harms me, not only now, but also in the past, he always harmed me, but I always helped him with the power of great compassion." At that time, King Ajatasatru folded his palms and said to the World Honored One: "What harm did Devadatta do to the Tathagata in the past?" The World Honored One said: "Listen carefully, and I will explain in detail. In the past, countless eons ago, there was a great king who liked to eat swan meat, and he always had a hunter catch swans. At that time, five hundred swans flew from the north to the sky, flying south, and the swan king was caught in the hunter's trap. At that time, the hunter was very happy and came out of the hut, preparing to kill it. A female swan flew to his side and made a sad cry. Then, the hunter drew his bow and put an arrow on the string, preparing to kill it, but the female swan was not afraid of the arrow, flapping its wings and jumping on the swan king. Five hundred ordinary swans were also circling and flying in the sky above it. At that time, the hunter

Uttering a voice of compassion, vomiting blood from her mouth, and not even looking at her life, seeing the attachment to the swan king, the hunter thought: Even birds who have taken birth in the animal realm are so attached to each other that they give up their bodies and lives. How could I bear to kill this swan king? Thinking this, he lifted the bird net and released it. At that time, the swan was also extremely happy and flew after him, surrounded by five hundred swans, and flew into the sky. At that time, the hunter reported to the king, saying: I caught a swan king and was about to offer it to you, but a female swan vomited blood from her mouth, and without even fearing the bow and arrow, jumped on top of the swan king. I couldn't bear it, so I released it, and as a result, it was surrounded by five hundred swans and flew into the sky. At that time, the king, hearing these words, became uneasy in his heart and gave rise to a compassionate mind, thinking: Even those who have taken birth in the animal realm cherish each other so much that they do not spare their bodies and lives. So the king also vowed not to eat swan meat. At that time, that great king of that time is now the great king himself. At that time, the hunter of that time is now Devadatta himself. At that time, the female swan who vomited blood from her mouth is now Ananda himself. At that time, the five hundred swans were now the five hundred Arhats. At that time, the swan king of that time is now me. Therefore, Ananda's love for me now is the same as before. At that time, the five hundred Arhats flying into the sky were the same as before. Even though Devadatta was harming me at that time, I always did things that benefited him with the power of great compassion. When this Dharma was taught, hundreds and thousands of gods and humans attained from the first fruit to the fourth fruit. Some generated the mind of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, and some generated the mind of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Furthermore, Devadatta's evil thoughts did not subside, and he thought: The nails of my ten fingers
